Pivot Bolt

Getting back to the CD manual, the 4300 list of parts (per the schematic I attached that was for the 4600), it lists the cap screw on the front with a lock nut (not a locking nut). That apparently is a mistake on the list I attached which referred to the cap screw and a 'washer'.

It appears to be a way to tack up back lash, or slack at the pinion end of the drive shaft, but until I check with the mechanics, I will not know for sure. It has eluded me so far in the service manual. Seems to skip around this feature.

Will persue it some more.

I'm more confused than ever now, after looking at the online JD Parts for a JD 4610 and 4310...

It shows the 4510, 4610 and 4710 to have this bolt and lock nut but if you look at the 4210, 4310 and 4410, the bolt and lock nut isn't shown. Also there's no replaceable bushing used in the 4210, 4310 and 4410.

Yet, you have this mysterious loose bolt and lock nut on a tractor that it doesn't show to have /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I talked to the Deere mechanic this morning, and he said that some have the bolt, others don't. It has to do with the particular axle that is installed.

The bolt and nut is to take up space between (slack) when the axle is mounted between the axle support blocks fore and aft. He said to finger tighten the bolt with the front axle hanging loose (jacked up), and then tighten the lock nut to hold that position.

I'm satisfied that will work. The torque specs I gave before are not for this bolt and nut.
