why not just order the key like yours off of ebay it would have been less than $5 shipped to the house and would arive in less than 5 days, the ignition im sure was more than that unless a warrenty item.

well, we may just do that. but it looks like it's already notched or keyed and doesn't look exactly like ours. Of course, what does it matter if a flathead works - our ignition may not be a the finest tolerances anyway.

Edit: He has not ordered a new ignition yet. His plan is to machine something that'll work. If that works, great...if not I guess we'll go to plan B. The main thing is that we were able to use the tractor today to do what we needed to do - this morning even that was looking doubtful.

The key on the right is a key from an OEM switch of a YM2200, I don't think you will find this key on ebay or anywhere else. I had some of these keys made, but the metal was so soft that broke off easy so I threw them away. The key on the left is used on most other Yanmar tractors. When you buy a new switch, make sure that it uses the OEM key. There are some dealers that sell a switch that has a key that looks like the OEM key, but the OEM key won't work in that switch. The switch that we have uses the OEM key like the one on the left.

Your key is the one on the left in Danny's picture.

And the easiest thing to do is go to the John Deere dealer. DO NOT mention the word "yanmar". Tell them you want a key for a John Deere 750. Reminder: DO NOT mention the word "yanmar". That's all you need to do. If pressed, just say you're picking up the key for your old uncle or something and he just said a 750 key. You'll have a shiny new key with a deer on it but the old yannie will run just fine!!!! Mine has for 3 years now.
