We dont do much custom planing since we have 8 large retail stores where i work and also do a very large quantity of wholesale ,whch is shipped across the country and CANADA.We can do almost any pattern available ,[including cabin logs and cabin siding]for we have the heads for about anything,and sometimes ill invent something
If you guys like planers the one i set up is a YATES american a-20.It has 6 knifes per cutter head and does all 4 sides in one pass and you can also do two profiles at the same times.So with 6 heads running at once ,8 sets of feedrolls and lumber flying threw it faster than can be piled manually ,you need to be well taught to keep all your body parts

When you guys speak of jointers i think of something else.The definition of a jointer to me is a tool mounted on a track with a stone mounted in it to sharpen planer knifes while its running.Yes we dont have to stop to change knifes for a knick in the knifes,we "joint it" and keep right on chugging along.
If any one gets a chance to tour a mill do it.They are pretty awesome.If we happen to be doing dementional lumber ,and im not grading ,i enjoy cranking that old girl up and watching the 2 by 4s come out like bullets in a machine gun
The boys are glad they have an automatic stacking machine when thats going on
