Have you spent any time at your local dealers? Like everything there are good ones and bad ones selling every brand. If one in your area is great or terrible it would effect which brand I would be looking at.

Welcome to the forum.

Are you dead set on buying used at auction? VS getting attractive financing and possibly more of a warranty from a dealer?

Are you considdering anything other than orange / green.. or are the ose the only dealers in yuor area ( if so.. I'd stick to them if you don't like greassy hands with wrench imprints on them.. )

Soundguy, you read my mind. Today, I went to my Kubota dealer and got info on a new L3400 w/loader and a HST. He quoted me $16,800 plus tax. With tax, it comes to around $18,200.

I have sent him an offer of $500 down, $390/month for 48 months (using Kubota's great financing rates right now - 5.49%). This works out to about $16,600. A $1,600 discount IF he takes me up on it.

The only other dealer around me is for Mahindra. I simply do not know anything about this brand, and I do not know anyone that has dealt with this dealer.

Mahindra are becoming almost main breands around here now that they are getting more dealer support. ( think indian ).

Decent looking units.. remind me of farmtrac's, and older Massey units.

I'd buy a mahindra before a montana I believe.. ( not to kick montana.. just using it as a comparison.. etc.)

UPDATE-
It's been a wild ride since my hunt began. I started getting new tractor fever, and went to my local Kubota dealer to talk about it. The dealership has a great reputation, but I guess I just happened to get the crappy salesman.

This guy basically acted like I was wasting HIS time. He would answer questions with one or two words. No personality, no excitement. I had to ask to see the model. I don't expect someone to carry me around on their shoulders chanting my name, but I would like a little attention when I'm fixing to spend $18,000. I basically tried to play through it, and we got a credit approval from Kubota Credit. He made his deal, I countered, then he countered. We were $700 apart. I said why not split the difference. He said he couldn't do it. I said goodbye. We were working a L3400, FEL, HST. With tax, they wanted $18,200. I started at $16,600, he countered at $17,300. Heck, I would have even paid that much if he was not such a tool. But he was, so I went on my way.

I then went to another Kubota dealer about 25 miles south. He was actually a little higher on his new models, but a real nice guy. It was 95 degrees outside, and he had no problem going out there and showing me everything. The dealership is Stewart Martin, Inc. in Okmulgee, Oklahoma by the way. By now, I had come down from my new tractor fever, and was back in the used market, looking for something around $10,000 to get me through about 5 years, and then I'll by the beast to last the rest of my life.

He had a 2002 MF (I believe 2133), 27.5 hp, FEL, 1030 hrs that he wanted $10,500 for. I was not real excited about the tractor, but I was willing to buy it as a 'tweener for a few years, and I liked the guy. Today, as I was driving it again and making up my mind, I noticed a Kubota L3010 HST down the row. It has 600 hours, but NO FEL. He said he had not really advertised it yet, because he was going to put a FEL on it first, since most people are looking for one, especially with the HST. He had orginally sold it to the guy about 6 years ago, and the guy had since traded it in on a new one. He gave me the guys name and telephone number. I decided to go with the L3010. No FEL, but I'll just add one in a year or so. We ended up at a end price of $10K and change.

It was hard to walk away from those shiny new models, but looking back I'm glad I didn't go new. I can learn my land and make my mistakes on a used one for a while. They are delivering it tomorrow. Overall, I'm happy with what I got, and happy with the dealer. Even though it's about 15 miles further than my local dealer, I'll be taking it back there for any service work.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm sure I'll be back in here soon, asking for help.
