Re: Please! Who makes Kubota\'s oil
I'm somewhat reluctant to weigh in on this but...
I have a L3010DT (gear). When it came time to change the oil, my dealer only had Kubota UDT in 2.5 gl jugs. It was expensive. My dealership has been selling Kubotas for 15 yrs or so, but originally they were an IH shop. They carry Hy-Tran, the CASEIH oil. Their opinion was that it was a better oil. As described to me (I have not done the research), the Hy-Tran has additives that absorbe the moisture in the case and take it into suspension. Kubota oils do not. I am only reiterating what they told me. Therefore any water/moisture collects and rusts things. Well, in reality, so long as the machine is stored under roof like it should be, this shouldn't be much of an issue. But, the Hy-Tran was much cheaper, in 5 gl pails. My dad has been using Hy-Tran in gear tractors for 30 yrs. Seems to work great. Now I know what Kubota recommends. And if it makes you feel good, go for it. I suppose if I had a HST I might think differently. But let's face it, an HST is just a high quality hydraulic pump/motor. It's not a magical beast. I would not use a non-name brand oil, but any of your major flavors that meet the specs (viscosity being the most important) will be adequate. If you think the Kubota name is worth it, pay the bucks. I personally don't think I care what name is on the jug, but is it a quality oil I'm pouring in? Having said that, the few times that you do change the oil, it probably is a cheap warm fuzzy feeling compared to a new HST.
