Plumbing Electrons vs Propane...where to put the generator?

Yes guys. I currently have a permitted manual disconnect. It mechanically interlocks so you cannot connect the generator while mains are connected. I don't know of a way to interlock a single load under code. Maybe I'll just install a hard start kit.

Assuming the CU has a fused disconnect switch next to it, you could install a double throw disconnect switch on the line side of the CU’s fused disconnect switch. The short cable from the generator to this double throw switch has to be sized based on the generator’s full load amps/circuit breaker, not the CU.

But why do this? It doesn’t seem like this would be the only load you would run. Wouldn’t you power your main panel that feeds the CU from the generator?

May sound obvious, but label the transfer switch. Label makers don't cost much or sharpie. Plus label cables.

Are you going to switch your neutral?
