I get carded when I vote or if I'm buying spray paint but I'm not going to stop. Don't feel that the constitution needs an amendment for this. (I think our judicial branch of government agrees)

I've been on both sides of the random ID checks, both sides of the spot checks, both sides of the screening, both side of what I consider questionable profiling. I sort have made my living protecting personal freedoms and identities. Yeah, both sides of the government and individual too.

It's annoying, somewhat questionable, sometimes it's great timing, sometimes not, to be asked for id.

But you know what? They ask. And we have the "right" to say no. And then in some instances, we have the "right" to seek further legal advice.

I kind of like the system, deep down inside, all of you do too. It is the best there is, and will only get better. Because we are all about the individual.

Yes, we have a "right" just as they have the right to deny us what we want for denying them our id. Why should I be inconvenienced in that manor? ID'ing me at 38 to buy ammo is wasting my time. ID'ing me to buy my allergy meds is a waste of my time. Tell the idiot at the drug counter that someone buying ONE package of Zyrtec-D is legit. The guy buying every piece on the shelf and asking for more is probably getting ready to do a little home pharmaceuticals. DUH.

"And will only get better"? When they give us rfid chips to be anally inserted? I have to jump through hoops and pay for redundant background checks to buy a gun or haul the very same HazMat in my truck that I have been hauling for 15 years. That one must be renewed, for 100.00, every five years. That's not security, that profit making. If I wanted a FAST card (border crossing) or TWIC (seaports) to do my trucking job, I'd need to fork out another 100.00 each for those too. ALL THE SAME. Profit.

When I just renewed my CDL, I was allowed to use a phone bill for ID with the state of Maine. You wanna know what one NOT ACCEPTED form of ID was? The very same Maine issued CDL I was renewing.

All that, while two of the 911 losers (I refuse to give them the satisfaction of being a "terrorist") can stroll right through our crossing in Maine because it is impolite to profile. That same border crossing allowed a 28 year old, covered in blood with a bloody chainsaw and axe in his trunk, who also got caught on a lie about being a US serviceman, cruise right through after brutally murdering his neighbors. Their excuse? "We can't just profile everyone who comes through, how are we to know it wasn't red paint?"

Enough with the ID mandates. This is not a communist country (yet).

What about endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights? The Right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Ken Sweet

You must be mistaken, that's not the way our current administration quotes the Constitution.....

Yes, they actually do. Quoted just like every other administration has done since the beginning.

In the not too distant past, I recall one leader saying, "It's just a GD piece of paper"
Yes. That would be "The Declaration of Independence" ... the origin of our republic.

You kind of lost me on the hazmat and driver license complaints hayman...but I'm with you on the boarder patrol critique.

Spied these two on the lake across the street from us just this morning...What are those g-men doing all day up there on the Canadian boarder anyway?

I agree with you, but the times have changed and we have to change with them. I'm going on 60 and still get ID' for paint, CC,etc.. The hazmat cost is to cover checks on you and yes, some profit. What if a hazmat truck went thru a scale or other and was not checked? Would you like to live with that if you were the reason the driver was not checked. There are always some people whom should not be admitted, and without a doubt a flag should have been thown up at the person covered with blood, but some of the so called good guys really don't care. Used to be people watched out for each other, often I wonder now. Hope the is not turning political

"Some" profit? My sister does backgrounds all day long for 20 bucks a whack. Trucks through scales have NOTHING to do with a background check required every time I renew my cdl. Why every 5 years? I'm pretty sure that if I did something noteworthy that made me a danger to The State, the feds would have it right after the press did. When I asked a local rep as to whether it was safety or profit, the answer I got was "Well, maybe if we were doing this when McVeigh did what he did"... What? Really? You're kidding, right? Last major attack I saw done with a big truck that I can think of involved an irate trucker burning down Kalifornias state capital with a truckload of evaporated milk. That alone is proof that if a guy was gonna crack, no background in the world would make a difference.

As for scales, there's another "for profit" operation. But that's another thread.

I have never been asked for ID for anything in HD, liquid nails or otherwise. I wonder if it is a local HD policy or some new HD policy (been a year since I bough liquid nails) or a law (city/county/state/national)??

Many stores are asking for zip code now. They claim it is know where their customers are from. many folks don't/won't give zip or give a bogus.. the data is garbage then...

What did they do with the information? did the clerk just examine it? or did they enter something into a log?

I get tired of meaningless "policies" and stuff. BTW, thanks for serving!

Around here they'd ask for your phone number for a while.
I generally would give, like 555-1234 but often would get rejected as the number would not match my address.
Real PIA, however not currently being done.
