uuuhhh The rear bay has a second floor and the is a deck on top of the trusses. with lights. My air compressor is up there as well as the tanks
That why there are vents over the big door. I do have stuff up there but not enough. Just too much stuff. Then my parents passed away and I got their stuff. I feel bad about my kids when it is their turn. And I got heavy stuff.

OH..... Holding out on us huh!!!!!:p

COOL

Did you have attic trusses built for those trusses to utilize the space better?

What a neat idea putting, the air compressor in on the second floor. Well neat to me because I never thought of it. Just drop a line through the floor to a hose reel mounted to the ceiling. How quiet is it, and do you get alot of vibration?

I built the trusses myself. Cornell Ag extention service published a Farm Building truss book All sorts of design loads and pitches . They used plywood gussets and waterproof glue ( I used water resistant)( better stuff available now) and nails for clamping pressure. I did not have a nailer at the time so all the nails were by hand , on a 2" x 4" grid over every gusset , both sides. They were hugh 2 x 12 for top chord and 2x 10 for the bottom . I added a king post for the I beam load. (per the ag book) The dead load, plywood and shingles and the Live load Snow had a bearing on the pitch.
8 ' centers drove a lot of the chord size. When I was done the space at the top popped out.
I have had 5 tons on the I beam and nothing even creaked. Although the trick to heavy lifts is not to try and roll them on the beam. Just lift and pull the trailer out, then let it down and move it on pipe rollers. The town Building Inspector had a fit when he saw the beam but I know how to handle that. I had my engineer sign it off. ( friend)
I will post pictures when I get them scanned.
No vibration at all from the compressor but I can hear it running. Don't forget there is ceiling insulation between. It was interesting getting it up there. Chain falls at the peak

How difficult is it for you to get to the compressor to drain the tank?

I have a magnetic starter for the compressor motor. So it s pushbutton for start. There is a timer on a solinoid valve to dump the compressor pressure line, the unloader. Then on the off button, when depressed there is a set of contacts that pic another solinoid valve on the drain lines. all of this is on a board on the barn wall at eye height. The other thing I did was bring down some piping for a manual valve. Big storage tank and little storage tank. Most of the time all that is on line is the little one. If I have to sand blast or paint I open up the big tanks. The only maint upstairs is to check the oil in the compressor .

Cannot seem to reload the upside down one right side up. This shot is the full load of insulation for the ceiling. Same stuff as tennis courts. 4 ft wide as long as you want 6 inches with a facing. Just unrolled it over the joists and let it lay there. The facing became what you saw for the ceiling .

Here is the reason I had to get a scanner. My daughter helping with radient heat tube tie down for the house. She is getting married and I had to scan in shots for a rolling DVD show on a flat panel at the wedding. Losing my helper. But then again gaining another one. They seem to like to help around.
