Ok now maybe we are on the same page I am horrible at communicating my ideas.

I was thinking of making my side walls 16' out of the ground and place the ledger board 5' from the top. this would give me 10' clear downstairs and 5' at the wall upstairs.

Have you thought about where your doors are going to be and how you're going to move around inside the shed? With posts on 12' centers in every direction, your maneuverability is quite limited.

if you imagine the building in 12' sections down the 36' side you have a typical horse barn layout. 4 - 12' stalls on each side of a 12' center aisle. Very common in horse barns.

I missed the "planning my horse barn" at the beginning. I've just been reading "pole barn" which to me is a place to park my boats, tractor and implements. I would need about a dozen doors to be able to maneuver all that stuff in and out of your horse barn :)
