I've learned enough from this site and other research online, I know I can do it myself and get a better finished project. Time is the big issue. I don't have enough time to do it myself. Unfortunately, it looks like I might not have a choice!

Well, it looks like the builder is going to make it good. They offered to remove the slider, replace the siding and install a roll up door at no cost to me. Still waiting to hear what they plan to do about the condensation issues. Hopefully they will take care of that also.

Great news!! It is always possible they have more than one crew and the better crew was busy at another job site doing a different project. It is possible the foreman was elsewhere or was distracted for one reason or another. There are several possibilities. I am glad to hear the Company is at least communicating with you - the Company communicating with you is a GREAT sign. If you can take a day or two off from work and attend to witness the repair work - it will show your desire to have it done right - it will give you the opportunity to request minor adjustments they might not see - point out what you are looking for - it can't hurt. Definitely keep the dialog going! Good luck!! Hope it works out!!!

Great news.

So I take it they came and had a look at the door. What did they say about it? I hope they agreed with you that it was unacceptable and didn't try to make you feel like you were being unreasonable. I hate when someone pulls that.

Did they say anything about the gaps (missing vented closures) in the roof. What good would insulation do with it like that.

Sounds like they are going to stand behind their product and you really can't ask for more than that. Employees will do some real crappy work if they can get away with it. Let us know how you make out with all this.

They had another crew come out and take a look at it. He agreed with everything I had found and proposed the roll up door as a solution. I had previously been told by the salesman that they had to have a 3 foot header for a roll up door which would mean I wouldn't have the clearance I needed. The new builder said he can get one in with a 21 inch header, 24 inches max. That makes it a workable solution. This guy really seemed to know his stuff and he pointed out small things that he does differently that the first crew. His attention to detail is what impressed me. Looks like it will be another week or so before the new door and siding are in, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that it comes out right this time.

It never helps to tell the salesman that you have a "blog" or forum where you are documenting every aspect of the build. It may help with any fixes.
good for you the new crew is coming.

Going to a roll up door is a real step up. I'm not sure why anyone would ever install a sliding door. They are a headache from day one.

agree!!

Im pretty sure that top track cover piece should be behind the siding so the water rolls off the trim and not behind it like they have it now... Hanging steel isnt a science but can be tricky at times and you need some knowledge! J channel corners are confusing to some the first time you see it done. Same with the overhead door trim.

I just started to skin a existing barn on my property:

Well, they sent out another crew to take care of everything. The pulled the sliding door and the existing metal off and replaced it. They installed the roll up door and installed most of the missing vented closure strips under the ridge cap. Unfortunately that didn't have enough to finish off the ridge. There is about a 2' section at one end that is still missing. These guys did a much better job. Now all I have to do is get the ridge closures completed and I will be good to go.
