Poll: Your satisfaction with your HST transmission

Hey, can you guy also let us know if you drive an automatic transmission car. I wonder if the two are related? Those of us who drive manuals and have had for years I think are more open to geared tractors than those whom have driven auto's all their lives.

HS

I own 4 vehicles and 3 have manual transmissions. Both my tractors are hydro and I would rate them 10 out of 10.

I own three vehicles, and two of them have manual transmissions, by choice. Of all the vehicles I've owned in my life, all but one had a manual transmission, again by choice. My tractor has a HST; having driven tractors with shuttle and gear, I much prefer the HST for mowing and FEL work, even though I've only had the HST-equipped tractor 9 hours and counting :D I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10.

Very happy with my HST, I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10. I've owned (and enjoyed driving) manual transmission cars and trucks.

Yea, I had a manual transmission on my work truck, after a hard days work... I didn't look forward to having to shift in traffic. Never again. I had planned on getting a gear drive in my tractor but the wife couldn't drive it (like that's a problem :p) but wanted to. I *hated* the HST for a while... reasons given before, but now when I have to do a "U" turn in a tight area and can do so in a flash... Main thing for me was that the gear tractors wore my butt out... where I feel like I can continue to work after HST or flipping buttons on the bigger tractors.

I give mine a 9.825 just to mess with the averages. For "chore" type work it can't be beat.

It is excellent for loader work, bucking snow, manuevering in the woods, precision work close to buildings and other obstacles. My smaller tractor was purchased specifically for these purposes, and so far has perfomed excellently at all of them.

Because my experience is limited to only 5 months of ownership, I can only give an 8 out of 10 so far.

I still hopped on the bigger geared tractor to cut down the first weed growth this weekend. It doesn't have all the safety switches and I can stand up and strecth out when I'm driving for a long time. I am leary of bypassing the seat switch on the HST because it doesn't have a positive parking pawl like my geared unit. I miss being able to drive standing up, and just dropping into park to hop of without having to set and release the brakes in addition to shifting into neutral.

Maybe after I figure this dilemna out I can up it to a 9 out of 10.

I see on your profile you have a Bobcat CT335 which should be similar to my Kioti DK35 HST--it doesn't have a seat switch. By setting the cruise control I'm able to drive standing up. Also, I am able to set the parking brake without shifting to neutral.

Perhaps your comments refer to the John Deere listed in your profile? Or is the Bobcat CT335 different than the DK35 (e.g. CT335 has seat switch and DK35 doesn't)?

my dk45 doesnt have a seat switch eather...and im kinda leary about that.

I can see why its not necessary in one respect cause if you let off the hst pedal, it stops.

But what about if the cruse control is engaged.....now i cant fall out of my cab, but someone can in an open station. i guess the tractor just keeps a mowing hehe

On the BX I rate the HST a 7 because the hyd relief pressure is not high enuf to use full engine power. On a skid steer I drove I would rate it a 9 because you could control all engine power with the pedal. Mashing the pedal would either spin or stall it quickly, whereas the BX just bogs down slightly.
