Porch Views... East Wells,Vt

Yesterday Sue and I ventured north to Up State New York. Had to go and see my Mom in the nursing home. We had check the weather reports and all seemed to be pretty good for the drive, but just to be safe we decided to take the truck (4 wheel drive).

Up on I-89 we ran into a blinding snowstorm that lasted nearly all the way to Burlington. Between exit 6 and 8 we saw four vehicles off the road (three had turned over) and on the opposite side of the road (going south) there were another two accidents. Black ice and speeding the key reasons for the accidents, I am sure.

Just one of those freak storms that came up quickly and was over as quick. We decided to cut our visit short so we could get back through that area during daylight. On the way back the roads were completely dry and no signs of any bad storm.

Less than 75 days to spring!

Finally had a chance to get some shots of all our recent snow. While we do get a fair amount of snow up here, it usually melts somewhat before the next blast. We've got nearly two feet on the ground right now, and it's snowing more as I type. Driveway is getting narrower! Here's some shots:

Rob, that's some beautiful scenery and pictures, and I'm glad you have that snow instead of me. Our next door neighbor had some bare or nearly bare spots in his yard this Fall, so I lent him my Mantis dethatcher, then he sowed annual rye seed. Today he mowed and it really needed mowing, too.

I drive that Interstate a lot Wayne. It certainly can be a scary mess during a storm. Last year truckers were passing me at full speed during a storm and I later saw one of them totally off the road into a tree. The state police were pulling the drivers body out the front windshield when I went by, trying to keep it out of view with a blue tarp.....yet the truckers kept on "truckin". It's hard to believe how crazy some of them drive in the worst conditions with zero consideration for the people who have to drive in the wake of their tire wash. It's an outrage.

You know it Jim, it is "BIG SCARY TRUCKS" although I think some of them are bad the majority are good drivers and understand the problems during storms.

At least around here they seem to slow down. Today NH reduced the speed this morning on all highways to 50 MPH that was during the morning commute, but I would think they have removed the restriction by now.

I find many of the SUV's are the ones going way too fast and driving only in the passing lane! 4-wheel drive gets you going good but does nothing to help you stop!

Scotty---Just saw an ad in Farming magazine for land in Wells, Vt.. 6.86 acres, they are asking $75,000. Ad says it has frontage on Wells brook. The pic shows a nice cleared meadow surrounded by woods.
