Position Control

I guess I missed that part about "<font color=blue>doesn't float up or leak down</font color=blue>", and you're absolutely right. Or at least you describe the way it works on my L2500DT.

Raising the 3pt, as discussed elsewhere, is not very accurate, but if I start from a fully raised position, I can lower the implement with a fairly fine degree of position control to the minimum height I wish to attain. Once there, it most certainly floats up over obstacles or stubborn terrain, and I have yet to experience any noticeable leak-down (in all my vast 35 hours in the seat. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif).

Just observatins from a newbie, but there's no question on the floating issue for me. Other models behave differently?

Like Bird, I've had a B7100 without position control for a few years now, and I really don't miss the postion control feature. Some folks say you can't miss what you've never had. I use a mid-mount mower, a bush hog, and a back blade and haven't needed the postion control for any of my applications. If I were using a box blade, I think I might find position control useful.

You really need to figure out the what the tractor is going to be doing, and decide accordingly what's most important. When I bought the B7100 from the original owner I was into economy, so $$'s were real important and the B7100 was a good machine at the right price.

Todd,

That's a good explanation of position control... I explained draft control later in the book. Although, as with non-position control 3-point hitches, the exact way draft control operates can be different from tractor to tractor.

In the first revision of Compact Tractor Buying & Basics, I will clear up some of the differences in performance/operation you might find between tractor makes, for both position control and draft control.

According to the brochure in my hand, yes, the 3710 comes standard with Position Control, and Draft Control is available as an option.
