Possible danger of tractor side exhaust

/ Possible danger of tractor side exhaust #71
I checked my L3400's exhaust location more carefully after reading thru this thread... it angles down and out, nowhere's near the boom or bucket, and that's likely why I don't notice it... starting in the barn, sure, but once it's outside, I am not subject to exhaust. Good.
On a similar, but different note, I had a friend who owned a successful German Auto full service repair shop- he was good, and worked very hard, and it payed off from him. He would often restore old Mercedes and Porsches, working on them after dinner when the shop was closed. After years of breathing auto body shop solvents and who knows what, sadly he couldn't even go near his own body shop without very serious breathing issues. I hope he's still alive!!

This thread brings back fond memories of hooking up implements with the rear exhaust on our old Universal tractor. Or giving her throttle when a friend was helping to do so.

I use Howes year round.

my son just gave me these to put on it:

Why he made me 2, I don't know. He's young, maybe he wants me to hot rod it.

I suspect it's your physiology, Arrow... a sensitivity or allergy that you're just starting to notice. I developed allergies to certain foods when I hit 60..right out of the blue, and it pizzes me off that I can't have the things I've enjoyed all my life. I hope you figure it out.

Let me know how these extensions work out Pilgrim. I've discovered there is no vertical exhaust option or none the dealer knows about. I would hate to cut into the original as it would take too long to fabricate off the original pipe. Might have to start from scratch and fab mounting plate and all. Just beginning skidding season as the ground has finally froze over so do not want the tractor hung up for fab work. Going out as soon as I mount the skid plate I made for the 16. That's another thing I should have done years ago.

In addition to having your blood checked for high concentrations of CO and whatever else can be tested for by your doc,.

This is a good idea Coyote. Never crossed my mind to be tested for CO. Don't get the head aches, just the throat frog irritation. Thanks.

Will do. He's making me another one as those pictured are too large in diameter. I'm going to experiment as to which direction works the best. I'm thinking straight down at first.

My 5035 is upturned. Starts under the hood about even with the back of the front axle. Then shoots upwards above the tire at about a 35 degree angle. My thought is [ guess ] is that if you point it forward you are just making a cloud you have to drive thru sometimes. The upturned exhaust is great when you have someone standing right in front of it when you fire it up. Big cloud of black smoke...!!!! :)

Can't tell too well by the pic but it looks as if they mounted the exhaust manifold exit up high as if one turned a header upside down so the exhaust first goes up.. I'm also wondering why they chose to exit the exhaust on the opposite side. Does your fel boom get in the way Jerry when it's down?

Not liking your first idea Pilgrim of a downward turned exhaust. My first impression is that the ground would simply act like a reverb area for the exhaust to bounce up and toward you as you're moving forward. I'd be first experimenting with a more side thrust and slightly upward like in Jerry's pic.
It would be neat if we could infuse a "coloring agent" into the fuel to be able to trace the exhaust path so one could see where every last, stinkin exhaust molecule is moving.

The FEL is above and forward on the 5035, no where near the exhaust.. Here is a picture I pulled off the net... You can just see the exhaust shooting up by the top of the tire, just forward of the little white/yellow sticker. On the 5035, the intake manifold is on the drivers side, and the exhaust manifold is on the left.
