Good to hear that your helpers were well out of harms way.

Yes, they certainly are...but all it takes in one inattentive moment and things can get nasty in a hurry. If we always remember that, we'll all be members of TBN for a good long time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Was the hole you drilled in the boom a requirement to use the PHD on the BX22? Just trying to understand-- it would probably be more clear to me if already had the PHD but just wanting to understand a bit more so I can be ready to go and know what needs to be changed? A picture would be great if you had one?

I've got the same unit on my BX-2200. You have three choices. You can drill another hole in the boom, about two inches closer to the TPH; you can shorthen the auger by about 4 inches; or you can drag the tip of the auger around on the ground when it's in the full-up position. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

It took me about 30 minutes total to drill the additional hole. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Another tool that will come in handy if you don't have the equivalent -- a home-made T wrench. You will snap the shear bolts. Most of the time, this will be with the auger all the way down in the hole. I used a 3-foot length of 2 1/2" galvanised pipe; drill a 3/4" hole near one end, for a 3/4" by 30" iron rod (handle) and a 5/8" hole near the other end for the bolt.

In use, just slide the T-wrench into the auger, slip the bolt through the auger and pipe, and back the auger out. Sure beats trying to dig the sucker out. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Dave & Henro (I know it's Bill but Henro is pretty cool),

Sorry for the delay in response. I've been working at night on my deck project. I had the lumber dropped Monday and been at it since.

The only way I knew to get sufficient clearance with the standard 9" & 12" auger bit was to drill another hole (4th?) hole closer to the lift arms and the PTO on the main boom. I (read: my dad the machinist) bored the hole the same distance apart as the others and it allowed the lift arms to raise the whole unit with plenty of clearance at the tip of the auger. Would you like me to post a picture of the unit mounted or a close-up of the hole and mount itself? I'm guessing i have 8" to 9" from the tip to ground surface.

I'd be interested in a picture of the actual modification you made so I'll be able to duplicate it once I purchase my PHD. No problem on time from me, hope to be buying in the next few weeks but going to purchase the equipment for my pond first, the PHD will come in to play when we're ready to do the landscaping.

Hope the deck turns out well! Thanks again.

Joe,

If it is not a problem at your end, could you post a pic of both?

Anytime is fine at my end too. I can use my PHD on the larger tractor, but if I could modify it to work on the BX that would be great, as then if the backhoe is on the larger tractor, I would not have to take it off to use the phd...the smaller one could help out...

I'm sure others here would also find seeing both pictures very useful.
