post hole digger extension

I had a welder friend cobble together an extension so that I may dig deeper holes with my post hole digger. It attaches between the gearbox and the auger. I did not anticipate him to make the inner sleeve solid as I thought thick wall pipe would be enough but he said he wanted to make it to last!

It is not rocket science but thought I would share. I asked for a foot deeper but he only made it about 9 inches. Because of the goemetry of my Bobcat CT335 I have to dig down, add the extension, and then finish digging. If you had more clearance you could add it from the get go. Thanks for looking.

That's certainly one solid piece of steel there, it definitely won't be the weak link in that setup. Just seems to me that it would be a pain having to repeat that process of adding the extension, and removing it, for every hole you dig with it though. If it works for ya, then just ignore my comment!!! Good luck with it.

Have you tried adjusting the lift point linkage on the tractor to see if you can lift it to clear the ground with extension on? When the tractor arrives at dealer from Bobcat the lift links are in the rear most holes of the 3 pt arms, this give the most leverage for heavier loads. Moving the llift links forward into the center or front holes increases the lift height, but reduces the lift leverage. You don't need alot of lift leverage on a PHD unless it is bound up in the hole. On my CT225 using the PHD with lift links in the original position, I go to full depth of the auger before the lift arms are completely down. Just a thought, you might try moving them forward to see if you can get the height you need with extension on and still go deep enough.
