Why not just auger a hole in the ground and disconnect it there leaving it stick out of the ground? If rusting the auger bit is a concern then line the hole with plastic buckets. When you have the PHD digger out of the ground cover that hole with something so no animals or people step into it

Here is the 4x4 route. This has worked for years for me. No muss, no fuss, and it is where I want it to be. The other ways that are posted work also, but you asked about using 4x4s, and that is what I have done.

So, once you hook it up to 3-point, how do you get it off of the 4X4 holder? My tractor won't move sideways and won't lift high enough...

You lift the phd, then the 4x4 can be pulled out from the side. The 4x4 only sets in the saddles, it is not fastened. ;)

I bought a Rhino PHD 6 months or so back. Took a buddy and myself to get it attached the first time.
When it was time to remove it I tried my Harbor Feight engine hoist. That makes install and removal surprsingly easy.

I just purchased a used heavy duty post hole digger for my tractor. I lifted it out of my truck with the front end loader and chain. My question is how to install it to the tractor. Is it a two man job or can one man do it? Now it is laying on a skid. Should I stage it in any way to make installing and taking off any easier. I was thinking a 4X4 in the ground and tying the auger to it. Any help (pictures) would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Wally

Thanks for all the replies. I now have lots of good ideas.

First thing is to get a friend of mine to put it on the tractor. We then can measure the height of it when pulled up all the way. Back that off then we can build the holder. Any magic number you guys have used for that?

Thanks,

Wally

I just take mine apart and put it in the shed when I'm done with it. Takes about 15 minutes to put together and mount on the tractor.
Attach the yoke to the lift arms, attach the boom to the tractor, connect the yoke to the boom and lower to the gear box/auger and put the pin in. Maybe thats more work than you wnat to do for a phd but I like to store mine stuff inside and I have room that way.
