Posthole Digger Post Hole Digger - Help

I just purchased a used heavy duty post hole digger for my tractor. I lifted it out of my truck with the front end loader and chain. My question is how to install it to the tractor. Is it a two man job or can one man do it? Now it is laying on a skid. Should I stage it in any way to make installing and taking off any easier. I was thinking a 4X4 in the ground and tying the auger to it. Any help (pictures) would be appreciated.

Hi Wally, When I got mine I had the luxury of having a beam going through the basement garage of my barn (partly by design of course) so I just got a beam trolley to roll it out of the way and it aids greatly in connecting it to the tractor.. Enjoy and be safe...

I know it looks kind of junky but here's my solution. Just found a long pallet and lowered the PHD minus the auger on to it. Put some scrap pieces of 2x4 to keep it in place at the level it meets the tractor when lowered. I can now connect and disconnect in no time with out wrestling the digger. Once hooked up I raise it and slide the auger on (easy once the boom is on the tractor).

I just did this a temp fix and it's worked so well I haven't changed it. If I ever get some free time I'll pretty/stenghten it up a bit, but for now this'll have to do. An added bonus is I can move it around with the forks if needed>

If you have a sturdy tree on your place throw a chain over a low branch, 7 or 8 feet off the ground will do, back your tractor with PHD attached and raised under the branch, attach the chain around the PHD boom, lower it and then disconnect the PHD. It is disconnected and stored. You don't have to build anything, it is easy to reattach and it is cheap. Been doing that with mine for years.

I don't have a beam trolley (that's one cool tool!) but use a similar method.

I hang mine from a chain that is hanging over the rafters. Doing it that way allows me to swing it around by myself its and easy one man job to hook up.
