I built this on Saturday...

Yesterday I added some angled front to back supports but the pic is on on my phone for some reason.

Here is the picture with the angled side supports that I could not find.

Yesterday I moved it up to the area where I've got all my attachments for now and the biggest issue I had was the ground was not quite level and it tried to fall over sideways. I've got it propped for now but I could not tell if it was gogint o be an issue until I put weight on it.

This may not be a long term solution...

Also, what is the secret to attaching a PHD? I could NOT get the pin for the top link to go all the way through... I simply could not seem to get the weight off enough to manuver it and get the pin inserted with one hand.

I am almost ALWAYS working alone, I need one man operations.

David, it looks to me that you have your PHD too low and are having to lift it. This may or may not be the case, just what it looks like to me. I have mine a bit higher, I have to lift nothing, takes 5 minutes or less to get hooked up by my self. As far as the ground being uneven, you have a tractor, level a space out. It will ALWAYS be easier to hook up implements when the tractor and the implement are both on a flat surface.

Mine balances quite nicely on the boom, in fact the wind will turn it easily. The biggest problem I have with the front pin not going in place is if the tractor is not square with the stand.

I dug the holes for the uprights, put them in place, then backed the tractor in place with the PHD attached and marked the height for the crosspiece. I think I set it about 3-4 inches lower than the max height I was able to get with the 3PH fully raised.

I think you are right. Mine is nicely balanced, I can move it with one hand, but I set it too low so when I lift it a bit the auger hits the ground...

I did not want it too high, in case it fell over... Maybe I can jack it up a bit... Hmmm...

As for the "front pin"which connects to the toplink spot, My PHD has a ball and it swivels every direction, regardless of square. I can get the pin in, I just could not seem to get it all the way through... Hmmm Maybe it is all related to being square. Bad news is NOTHING is flat or square on my property, NOTHING... The carport pad is cracked and has low (i.e. wet) spots...

I've been able to make spots smooth and close to flat, but not level, I have no box blade or rear blade, and every implement I have is subject to the ground's levelness.

David, pick a spot that will work to park your PHD . Get 2 treated 4x4s 8 feet long. Use your PHD and drill a couple of holes and put those 4x4s in there for uprights. You need to build your stand to be permanently in place with the terrain that you have. It won't be falling over when the posts are in the ground 30" or so. Like Sean said, set you height by having the cross bar a few inches lower than the tractor will lift the PHD at full height. This is easy, safe and cheap and the best thing is that it is easy and fast to hitch up the PHD.

David, this is a quick, easy, safe and cheap solution. Put it in the ground one day and if you feel the need to move it, then do so. It just does not take much time to have a safe and easily used stand. Unless you change your implement storage area weekly, there doesn't seem to me that there is a good reason not to do this.

But that is just me.

I don't want my bit rusting out over the years. I still say a small chain and a bolt is the best and simplest.

I made a similar stand, but I made the base a bit wider, and longer,a nd I hung the PHD from a chain with a hook from my top 4x4 cross beam to the hole on the top of the PHD shaft. I sed the same side support idea, and It works great. Thanks again for the design. I have the same model PHD as you, and it is actually, a very heavy unit. This stand makes life so much easier.
