Just tear it down into 4 components when I take it off the tractor and put it on a pallet to be stored on shelving. It makes putting it on the tractor easy, put the yolk on the 3 pt arms, attach the boom to the top 3 pt pin and the yolk, hang the gearbox/pto on the boom and then install the auger. Makes a nice compact package for storage.

Thats what I"ve done for years. Only my bush-hog sleeps outside.

When you guys take you PHD apart, how long does this take? Then how long does it take to put it back together again? :confused3:

My stand was less than $20, used 4x4 pressure treated material, put it where I wanted it and takes less than 5 minutes to take off or put on.

Here's a pic of that swing arm bracket I built for mine. It's not what you'd buy today with the small compact gearbox. Mine was made back probably in the 50's with a gearbox that looks to be the size of a car rearend. And the output shaft is a lot bigger. It's too heavy to be lifting by hand. I swing it out from the wall and attach the yoke and boom and them back the tractor up in place and the boom can be pushed side to side to get it lined up and the swing

Mine sat outside for years before I bought it so it will stay outside until my heirs sell it. I have a stand similar to MtnView's only I hang it from a short chain. this lets it swing fore & aft besides up & down so only have to get close to hook it back up.

You won't get no arguement out of me. No doubt the way you and some others here do it is quicker. Who knows 15/20 minutes to to take apart (one way) and or build. I'am just speaking for myself PHD is an attachment I don't use that much yet enjoy owning if I ever need like any tool.

Boone, thanks for replying, nothing wrong with taking things apart, just a job that I would not want to do on a regular basis, or actually on 2nd thought, doing it once was enough for me. :laughing: Was just curious about how long it took, once a person was familiar with how to assemble.

Having a stand would be nice, but it takes up too much room when storing them inside. I can tear it down and have it on the pallet in 10 minutes by myself. Without a stand, it becomes a two man job just to put it onto the tractor, by tearing it into 4 parts, I can easily handle each of the individual parts to mount it.

When we were pouring the floor for the barn, my nephew suggested we leave a hole for the PHD. So we put a Home Depot bucket down where my implements were to be stored before the pour and ba da bing PHD stand.



That's a 9" auger.
