Last summer, this Gravely installed 200 feet of 4 inch gutter runoff pipe.

The previous summer, with the auger adjusted to vertical,, it planted 50 trees, and shrubs.

This summer, it will completely re-landscape the 70 foot front of my daughters house.

Post hole digger,,, nope,, BETTER!!

Thanks for all of the help. I ended up getting a EA 6900 HD PHD with an 18" and 12" auger.

I did about 400 holes with my Leinbach 3pt PHD before it ran off with my old tractor.

At $500 for a 3pt vs $1500 for a hydraulic it's likely I'll replace it with another 3pt PTO unit. Even though I do tractor work & post holes as a side gig.

I engeneered my PHD to fit on a QH. That only works with a hydraulic toplink though. It has the side effect of giving downpressure for the top of tbe hole. I also mounted 200lbs of weight over the gearbox. Never had downforce problems unless I had worn out or frost teeth in.

I'm cautious & inch down slow to avoid corkscrewing. Gotten close a few times but never stuck an auger.

My light cheap 12" Speeco auger had ovaled torn mounting holes & completely worn out teeth after 150-200 holes. Still usable with new teeth, but was gonna need a patch collar welded on soon.

Really 3pt PHDs aren't usually rated for much if any more than 12" augers. Double check to see it that 3pt PHD is rated to handle the torque of a 18" auger.
