Um, you and Kevin wouldn't want to get into the fork building business, would you? (Hint, hint /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif) If you do, I'll be your first customer! Very nice work!

Wow! Now this is exactly the stuff I'm looking for. There have been a lot of good posts. Forks are a good project and all the posts will be a good resource.

Thanks

Paul,
That is indeed a simple, effective and creative design. Real nice job, I may have to have a set of those made up.
Thanks for the pictures and idea. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Well,

WHile its fun to build one set, or maybe two, the bill of materials didn't include time or electricity for the welder. I'd have to say that the prices from a guy in the midwest ($220 + $60 shipping), probably wasn't too much more than I'd have to charge to make it worthwhile. I think the message here is, if you can and want to make them yourself, they don't have to be complicated or expensive. If you don't/can't make them, then a price of under $300 including shipping is pretty good.

Personally, if I didn't "have" Kevin's welder, I would have bought one, and considered the $200 savings as a down payment on the welder. Next up, gauge wheels for the fork I bought.

Yeah, I seem to catch those crooks pilfering my stuff pretty often. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Maybe I can persuade the older one to steal the tractor once a week during mowing season./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Here is a picture of my homebuilt forks. They are quick attach, they hang on a set of extra heavy duty hooks that I made and welded to my bucket.

It seem I have been building a new set of fork for a specific job for the last 30 years. Guess I just can't get it right. Might be because I normally build them out of the junk pile, to keep from purchasing what I realy want. I still use most of them fairly regularly. Have adapted them all to the quick hitch. Don't think I have small pictures of all of them. Will show what I have. BRUSH FORKS

Built these because my little tractor would not lift the long forks high enough to get the desired down pitch unloading on a staked high dump truck.
Brush or log loading forks with hydraulic hold down clamp. Also use the pads on the end to mash the limbs down into the truck bed.
