Junkman & KiotiJohn:

You know me, always lurking in the background. Oh, isn't a "lurker" a level definition here??

It was me that named you and John "heavy hitters".

I read the subject line and was going to comment something like....It's tooth in West Virginia and teeth everywhere else.

Both you guys are way more computer literate than I am. I can't even attach a link to a post.

John, that was cold naming Neil like you did. He might be a big burly guy and if you ever have a face to face, he might just......well, I hope he is a gentleman too.

Back to the thread. ATI makes teeth and plate burnout attaching points. I think the case teeth are ATI. They look just like the ones on my ATI bar.

Here's mine. Welded two pieces of steel into a sharp "V" and welded shanks to it. Replaceable teeth are roll-pinned on.............chim

Chim:

What size steel did you weld together to form the "V" ? Did you grind the front edge sharpe?

I used 3/8" X 2-1/2" flat stock I found lying around in the shop. The one piece (leading edge) is ground a bit, and the other is welded to it as in the sketch. H0ope this helps.........chim

I got desperate yesterday and made a tooth bar also. Nobody had the teeth that I wanted. I made do with these that I got from JD. I still need to put a plate under the bucket to keep this thing tight. Or I could drill the other teeth and bolt them down. I did this to two of them to try it out. I was burning brush piles today and bent the metal plate already flipping trees around. So it is back to the drawing board to update the bar or drill the teeth. One thing I can say about the tooth bar. It sure is easy to pop small clumps of trees and brush right up out of the ground using one tooth. I buried one tooth under the bush or tree and just pop it out using the hydraulics. Talk about making life easy. I put the chainsaw away after I saw how easy this works. Life is good now.

I like Chim's version with the "V" as it protects the bucket's edge. Good job Chim!

( I made this tooth bar. Got the shanks and teeth from the Case Heavy equipment dealer. With so much talk about toothbars I just had to make one. )

Jim, nice job on the toothbar. I went out his weekend and bought the same shanks / teeth / pins from the local case dealer. Will get a strip of 3/8" steel next week and hopefully mine will turn out as nice as yours.

Did you use a stick welder for this project? I'm pretty new to welding and have a wire feed welder (Lincoln SP175T -- see here for info) that I'm not sure would be suitable for this project. What do you or anyone else think?
