This all started out on 11-18-03 with the thread Help!!! building a pole barn Since then Mo has had 11 new threads with a toal of 412 replies. I know you are working with limited funds & you want to do as much as possible on your own but Mo, my man, you are in over your head. If your Dad has built a log home & two garages, plead with him to help you. You aren't even close to being done. You've got windows, doors, drains, wiring, roofing & a whole host of other things to do yet. Junkman is getting worn out & he hasn't even pounded a nail!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hey I am rooting for you.

I build a pole barn last year. Left crush and run in there, hoping to do concrete. This thread has made me think /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif, I can do this too. I don't have any rocks to deal with....................
BUT..................... I just think I'll get another couple of loads of crush and sit on it for another year. I like the "settling" ideas put forth.

Good Luck.

very funny guys!!!!, I sure dont mean to upset anyone, i just want the finished product to be right, I managed to round up everything i need today and reserved the drill and bit to pick up tomorrow afternoon, i do have one more question and then i promiss to leave you guys alone, ok, like i said, i am going to use 5/8 rod, i reserved a 7/8 drill bit, i got to reading the container for the quickrete anchoring cement and it says to drill the hole 3 times the size of the rod, so wondering if i should get a 3/4 bit instead of the 7/8 or if the 7/8 will do? Again, sorry for all the questions, but i promiss, when i post the pics of the finished barn, you guys and Junkman will smile! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Can you identify the brand names of the tools and adhesive that you have? It might be helpful to look them up on the net to see what the technical specs are.

I have just read the directions and it does say the hole should be 3 times the diameter of the rod. That would make it a 2" hole. Before you go off the deep end, read my instructions and it won't matter if you use the smaller holes. Make sure that you blow the holes out completely with air. Mix the cement to a loose consistency, not chicken soup, but more like a thick gravy mix like your Mama made with pork chops. Pour some in the hole and then tamp it in with the rod. Put more into the hole and continue to tamp it in until the hole is filled to the top and oozing out. Then put the rod in for the last time and make sure that it is placed where you want it. Also make sure that there is no cement on the threads above the rock. Remember, you can't put the nut on over the dry cement and you can't get the cement off once it dries. You can wipe it off with a damp cloth while it is still wet though. Don't wait too long. This stuff sets up fast... 15 minutes is the max time. Don't mix too much cement at a time. Have plenty of containers and mixing sticks to use. Work cautiously and don't rush, but don't move like a snail either. This is like working with nitroglycerin.....one wrong move and it is all over, except you are still alive, but have to start over again. Did you get more than one pail of cement? You can always return the other one if you don't use it. Did you get washers for the nuts? Did you get extra nuts to use as jam nuts to lock down to each other? Am I nuts to keep answering these posts? What happened to the rain? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

people, i got something to tell you, so grab a coke, pepsi, or better yet a cold beer because yor gonna need it..here goes, a little history first, when we first moved out to this country back road, there were 7 tracks of land for sale, 6.25 acres a piece, we were the first to be here, then next door, through a small thin patch of woods, a guy named rodney and his wife bought that and put in a home, this guy rodney, a pretty good guy is in construction used to work at the rock crusher down the road, thing about rodney is he's ALWAYS got a beer in his hand, well, i dont know him really good, but pretty good as he stops over a lot to see what im doing with the lawn and stuff, well, he stopped over this afternoon to see what i was doing out there with the hammerdrill and stuff, i told him, he said oh no, thats a waste of time, then he proceeds to say he had some blasting stuff or dynamite or something from the rock crusher and he could blow the rocks out of there without hurting the frame of the pole barn, now, i told him that when the crusher dynamites down the road, it shakes everything in the house and that i thought it would be way to much for this, he says oh no, i have some small stuff that will do the job just fine, i argued with him about it, he goes home and shows back up with this stuff, well, i just threw my hands up, told him no way, he mumbles a little bit, i go back to digging out around the posts, i see hes fumbling around each post, i didnt pay him much attention as i was digging and he's talking to me about this and that and im talking to him, i go in to use the bathroom and come back out, he's taking a drink of his beer, i go back to digging as im in a hurry because i want to be able to get everything done because i have to have the hammerdrill back by monday morning, then he says stand back, i said what? he said get back, i took off running and yelling, 'no, no, dont rodney!!!! You SOB dont do it!!!! Mind you he's drinking his beer, anyways, i ran into the house and before i could get a word out to the family, BOOOOOM!!!!!! I thought the house was gone, when it got quiet, i heard a bunch of cursing and stuff, i ran out there and the barn was gone into thousands of peices!!!! Luckily it didnt hurt my house, BUT, one of the 4x6 posts ended up going about 100 foot in the air and back down through the roof of rodneys house right into his livingroom where his wife was watching TV!!!!!!!!! His house is about 400 feet from the barn, It didnt hurt her but she came flying over here and was beating rodney like there was no tomorrow!!!!!!!! Then i cussed him out, my wife cussed him out, things calmed down and i stared at the place my building once stood, nothing there, couldnt even tell the trusses, looked like kindling, then i walked over to rodneys house to look at the damage, i didnt feel so bad about my barn after i saw his house, the post was sticking up out of the floor with probably a 8x8 piece of the truss attached to it still. I told rodney i wanst going to call the law or anything because he had a much bigger problem than i did on his hands between his house and his wife trying to kill him! I cant believe this, this guy is nuts, always drinking, i wanted to trust him because he's usually good at stuff, but not with something like this, no way, but the nut did it anyways! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Chad,

I've had a feeling for about three months now that you've been pulling our chain. Unless I see pictures now I'm convinced!

Yeh, maybe there should be a rule that you can't go over 100 posts on a topic without some sort of independent confirmation that it's a real project!

you will get pics, have to get them developed as i dont have a digital camera, and yes, i really have been building this pole building, and im not clever enough to imagine hitting rock and then worrying you guys with it, when i started the plans for the thing, i never imagined that there would be the grand canyon under the spot i was building it on..
