It is interesting that I saw the hung trees post pop up on the other sections..

With our recent snow, we had a power outage...
As always when we have an outage, one of us will drive the old logging road power comes up and look for a tree down..
This time we found no trees on the power lines, but 3 hangers..

All 3 will take the power lines down.
All 3 are up a bank that is 10-15 feet above the road. and the hanging connection is 20-25 feet up in the air..

Now the question I have.
I wonder if the power company will preemptively cut them and not charge me or will want us to wait until there is a problem?

what do you think? Is it worth a call?

now to be honest-- I think those hangers will hang there for a while as the trees they are hanging in are bigger and stronger then the hangees....

whatcha think?

You may want to base your decision on when and for how long you wish to be out of power.:D

good point..
It is interesting to note that this happened a couple weeks ago and the tree was leaning and almost touched the line..
They were there to cut in 6 hours..

So I am just thinking on whether I will get billed..
If billing is possible.. a familiy member has a track hoe that is big enough to handle it...
just gotta get him down there...

can't see why they would charge you ...power companies up here proactively trim all along their right of way. And, I can't imagine they wouldn't rather take care of it at their convenience, some sunny day, than wait for the snow, wind, or rain that would precipitate a problem ...

I agree, they like to fix problems when they don't have to pay overtime or bring crews from other states. Call them. They just trimmed all of the trees on my road and we did not loose power from the recent heavy snow. Lots of flickers though.

Here in NW Ga the Coop is glad to come out and do ANY tree that looks like it may even be close to getting a power line. Yes, even on the line that goes to your house.

We value a lot of the trees that are on our road near the power line. As they have a many feet right of way easement by the lines they have a right to clear whatever trees are in that easement. Depending upon the crew they can be an arborist and take care of the tree or butchers. A couple of years ago we had a butcher crew coming through our area. They came up our road and I got a call from my wife. Seems that when I got home my wife is out in our road with the shotgun to keep them from destroying our trees. Poor little Mexican guys were freaking out and totally dissapeared when the sheriff showed up. Needless to say the next day when they came the arborist was with them and we got the trees trimmed properly.

Anyway, give the electric company a call..........Dennis

I think they would want you to call them because they don't want anybody knocking their lines down or getting electrocuted.

Now that is a GOOD wife:D

In my neighborhood they came along trimming trees and I asked them to cut down a big pine near the line, they wouldn't do it because it was alive, said they would if it was dead. I told the guy, only half joking, to check back in a few months, I could make it dead.:D Turns out a pine tree is harder to kill than I thought, roundup poured full strengh into a 3/4 hole bored at an angle into the trunk halfway through doesn't do it;)

I'd call the power company and ask about there policy about tree removal.
If you were to cut the tree and tree broke power line, would you have to pay for repairs...$$$'s...also the safety factor should be consider.

I would call them. Around here they will do tree maintenance all year long and if there is a problem with a tree that will certainly fall on the lines they will schedule to have someone come out and remove it.

I have a leaner here and they will not remove it as the tree is healthy and they did not think it would harm the lines. So we live with it.

There is no way you should attempt to cut them yourself!
