Hey guys,

I'm trying to help a friend of mine, who is the new owner of a used JD770. He says the power steering is a bit jerky and is trying to find out where to add power steering fluid. He lives about 4 hours away from me, so I can't look at the tractor. My initial thoughts are, it's all hydraulic.. one fill point.

I have a 1999 4200, his is a 1995 790.

Anyone know if this is a separate system,.. or all hydraulic? Where does he add power steering fluid?

Thanks -Jeff

On the 770 it's a common oil sump. Two pumps one for the steering ,one for everything else. The dipstick is on the back of the tractor by the 3 point top link, fill is above it . The power steering option also added a spin-on filter in front of the left rear tire. Thier is also a strainer in the back axle.I know with mine ,if I don't run the John Deere Hy Guard Low-vis oil it whines from the pumps.

Since your friend is a new owner of the JD 77o, I suggest he change hydraulic fluid, filter and clean the sump screen. Good to start fresh on an unknown machine.
