1958 Ford 641
My 1958 641 didn't have power steering so i decided to purchase a used one and put it on. All of the pieces arrived and got them on my tractor. When I started the tractor the line coming from the pump going to the gear box blew out a piece of rubber tubing. The old tubing had been patched with this rubber tubing. The pump works great because it spewed out fluid everywhere. My though was the lines were crossed going into the gearbox. Could this be the problem or should I look somewhere else?

If it is possible to cross the lines, that could explain the situation. In general, hydraulic power steerings have a high pressure line, and a low pressure (return) line. The high pressure line is usually identifiable from the low pressure line because the high pressure hose is always crimped to the hard line, while the low pressure hose is often just slid over a barb and held on with a hose clamp.

If the lengths and fittings were the same and you could swap them, then this would likely happen.

Can you post a picture of the lines?
