Lets not forget about the good old Armstrong tools..hand saws & hand drills etc.. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

I like my Dewault that I've had for about 8 years. It's still the originally battery & is in a solid metal case that has room for bits, chuck, small grinder attachment...

I like my 18v Milwaukee but those combo kits from DeWalt look nice. Since I don't own a nailer, I pretty much stopped using nails when rebuilding my barn and just screwed everything together with deck screws. Very handy!

I weigh in on the DeWalt side, and have had a 12 volt for several years (two batteries) and a 14.4 volt for two years (two batteries). I find I can work steady, with a battery lasting more than the hour or less that it takes to recharge the second battery. Never waiting for a charged battery. I don't leave batteries in the charger, but store them when they are charged. They have always been ready to go when needed. I hired a carpenter (with a portable Makita) to help me put steel siding on my shed, and he laughed at me when I brought out my DeWalt to screw in the screws. He said to use his Milwaukee 110 v screw gun, as the cordless wouldn't last. He was quite impressed when it kept up with the screws as fast as he could get the next panels cut. The last time I saw him he had a DeWalt. I need two as I keep them at two different work sites. I expect the DeWalt is not the only kid on the block, but I wouldn't buy anything else.

My DeWalt cordless drill is probably the most used tool in my toolbox. I used it to put up almost 2,000 feet of electric fence tape which used a tape holder every 8 feet, needing 2 screws each.

While we're talking about cordless tools...

Has anyone used the other cordless DeWalt tools, e.g., 6.5" circular saw? Coastal Tool has the DeWalt combo kit of the 18v Drill-Driver and Circular Saw for sale at $379. I was thinking about using this combo for installing fencing this spring. The drill-driver for the screws to hold the rails to the posts and the saw to cut the rails. Comments?

I have a DeWalt 12v saw. Got it cheap and it was compatible with my 12v drill. It's pretty wimpy though. Fine for trim work and the occasional 2X4, but it just doesn't last long enough for any real project work. I helped my bro-in-law build a kids playset a couple years ago. He didn't have a circ saw and I brought my cordless for the convenience. Good thing I have three batteries and two chargers! My drill is fine, but the saw could use some more guts.

I suspect the higher voltage models are much better /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

If you have to buy all new cordless tools have you considered the cost of them to a new generator?

I've got the 18 v Makita combo pack with 1/2" driver/drill, 6 1/2 " circular saw. Ni-MH. All my power hand tools are Makita. The cordless saw is so unbelivably handy very seldom do I get my corded saw out anymore. Usually only for the day long jobs.

If you get the Dewalt consider their 18V cordless hammerdrill. Great for drilling in concrete.

At work we always had Milwaukee tools. Indestructable.
