I'm not familiar with Glide shift. I read one description that sounded like it moved shifter forks by hydraulic pressure??

Yanmar's Powershift has clutch packs similar to a motorcycle clutch or an automotive A/T. Here's a parts diagram on Hoye's website.

From what I gather, this might very well have inspired JD's (or Yanmar's ?) Power-reverser system. Of course there are only 3 positions, forward, neutral and reverse for each of the 12 gears to be selected manually. But it is also a clutch system worked by the tractor's hydraulics. Here is the picture from JD parts :

That looks like a typical Powershift hydraulic clutch. I dont know how the Yanmar or other Power shift tractors has its shifting points but the main advantage and idea with Powershift is that you dont loose much "power" between gear shifting as you do in a manual clutch gear box.

Mandatory in almost all bigger Wheel loaders.

Some VW bugs had this kind of tranny, didn't they? Seems like a I remember something similar.
