How many people from Pa. an New York fear the worst from Sandy. Is it coming were they say it is.:(

Well we are in prep mode here - time to put away outside furniture anyway and get some gas for the generator and normal prep work for winter - just a week or two early.

The track of the storm is not yet known but they seem to favor hitting NJ and NYC then turning west into PA and NY. The other track is directly into CT coast and into Northeast and to stick around for three days of rain and wind.

Either case I dont think we will get hit too bad - the ocean surge is another matter tho, with full moon high tide and if it sticks around for 3-4 days lots of beach erosion and flooding will occur - we are 1/2 mi inland @ 38' elevation so no worrys.

I sure hope it goes out to sea.
I'm still cleaning up after the last one.

Welcome to TBN.

Murph,

Thanks for the welocme - weve all been around TBN for a bit and all in the northeast relatively speaklng, so trying to understand your "welcome to TBN". Or am I missing something in the message?

I dont fear these storms but I respect mother nature and prepare as best possible.

You would be prudent to prepare for heavy rains, high winds and a multi-day power outage middle of next week! :hurricane:

not a chance in **** thats gonna happen according to the scenarios. Prepare if you are in the path.
I live 20 minutes west of philadelphia so im getting the worst of it. I just got my home generator installed 2 days ago so i will have full power when the electricity goes off. I live around all trees and they always take the lines down so this time i will have full power in the house. I also bought a bunch of d batteries for flashlights just in case a few days ago and it was a good thing. I went to home depot tonight and surprise surpirse. There are no flashlights or d batteries left. all shelves are cleaned out. I picked up a few sand bags just in case, but i wont be needing them becuase i put a huge swail in after last years hurricane. There was only a few bags of them left. Its crazy becuase everything is sold out everywhere already. Gonna go get some more diesel and gas in the morning.

Carl, it was kinda inside joke cause the OP posts the welcome about 20 times a day and i was surprised he started a thread.

I just read a long news story about the coming storm in the east and it doesn't sound good at all. Hope everyone back there, and their property, survives intact.

To members and friends on the east coast, I hope this storm does not hurt anyone. Be prepared and be careful.

This is crazy.

People in my area, Northern VA (the place that will decide America’s fate on election day) are ALREADY freaked!

I went to the grocery store after I got off work on Friday. IT WAS A MAD-HOUSE.

Normally I do Friday shopping for the weekend.

They were completely out of WATER, and according to a lady in line behind me, so was the WalMart.

Incredible.

We are like rats in a bad scientific experiment.

Yeah - now that I'm no longer at work and have had a chance to review the news, I can see it looks like it's making landfall somewhere near Atlantic City, NJ. My advice to anyone with a generator is to have enough gas to run it for a week. I had to drive 60 miles to find a station with gas 4 or 5 days after Irene ripped into us last August. We were out for 6 days.

Good luck where you are - batten those hatches!

I get it now - thanks - I guess its a PA thing as I used to wave at everybody too when I lived there - of course I came from a farm outside of a town of 110 total population.

Im doing minor prep, hoping for a non event, but the models have a wide variation and all of them bad. Ill be tucking my boat away hoping it doesn't get hit by a tree and getting fuel for the tractor and gen and sharpening my saws. On tne bright side i literally just chipped up the last branches from last years storm yesterday!

I would be worried about food and alternate forms of heat. If the storm surge reaches the 10 feet that could happen, would that effect the water supply? Down here, you can count on the electricity going out for up to a week. Up there, no telling how long if a big snow/ice event hits. Natural gas, Propane, Coleman fuel, burned in an OPEN air environment. Usually, the natural gas stays online, however, if it's tied to electricity, it can go down too. A gas stove can keep you warm if you have natural gas.
I would be headed south and inland if possible. Leave now, head to Florida, take a vacation if possible. No electricity for even 3 days is no fun.

Out here on the "Wet" coast they had "Sandy" as a story on our TV news last night. Called it a Frankenstorm. It is better to be prepared for the worst and hope it not so bad.
Stay safe everyone.

Not looking forward to it here.Last fall we lost power for 11 days and had major flooding. We are also all electric. Looks like I'll be moving into a cave soon.

Being from the gulf coast, we get our share of hurricanes, I don't wish that on anyone....hunker down and stock up on gas and beer.

We have everything put away pretty much some outdoor furniture to get in the barn and we are done. I had to go to the hardware store today for a cats claw to pull out a deck screw i broke in a piece of wood I was going to cut. When I went to pay it the guy said 1. we have no generators 2. we have no lamp oil, how can I help you. Most gas stations were packed and people were filling up containers like crazy.

We have a couple weeks worth of food on hand. I'll get gas for the generator tomorrow. Put away all the yard crap today, flower pots and such. Got plenty of firewood stacked in the barn. I think we'll be as prepared as we need to be (hopefully).
