Preventing small Well pump house frome freezing

Basements don't work too well on the Tx (or any other Southern States) Gulf Coast.

When in the US. I was shocked that most homes lacked a full basement. Beats me where they put the utilities, laundry room, freezer , barn washroom/shower, junk room and man's den without a basement ?

Plus also many people try to solve problems that are mostly regionalized with solutions that are not appropriate for the area. The climate in N. Texas is so much less harsh in the winter than say Ohio or points north that most of the reply's on this thread are totally off base.

One more thing to consider for those with a similar situation, is a battery powered remote thermometer. If the pump happens to be in range of your house, the alarm can be set to warn you if the temp drops below what ever min temp you set.

I would avoid using an extension cord. Underground conduit would be safer. They make heaters specifically for well houses.

I know this is an old thred... but just had to say..Thanks... this is exactly what I needed... light bulbs and extention cord last year were a PITA

Yep, was surprised to see a reply to my old thread...

Guess I could update too... I have 2 1.5k gal storage tanks by the house with a pump in a small well house. Bought that heater and attached a 220v plug (outlet is inside the well house) so I can unplug during summer. Worked great all winter and temps got down to the low teens.

I've since drilled a well and just purchased another one for its well house.
