I've seen them baling cornstalks around here, as I mentioned in another thread a while back. Seems like nearly every corn field has been baled. The other day I was out around town and I swear I saw a guy baling soy bean stalks.

Bought 55 6ft round bales for $35...from a neighbor.... I also moved his extra bales to his holding pen since he didn't have a tractor to move them. Asking price is $40 (haygrazer) to $55 for coastal, round bales. We had lots of rain this year. Bales last year were up to $90 each.

Here in upstate New York, just over the Vermont border, I'm paying $4/bale for alfalfa/timothy/clover mix (second cutting) and $3.50/bale for mixed grass (second cutting), both types for my dairy goats. I give my horses and sheep first cutting mixed grass for $3/bale.

Hey Scotty, please tell me where you've seen hay for $2/bale in our area!!! I'll fill my lofts with it, if it's good quality!!!!

Here in Alabama, hay is in a very short supply due to our drought. I picked some up last week out of the field as soon as they could bale it. Out of the field price was only $3.25. Normal going price is around $4.50 and up.

This past weekend I loaded a couple hundred round bales of mixed grass for a local farmer. He had baled about 350 total bales on 2 different fields, and it was mostly already sold or spoken for. He was selling the bales for $40, which is the going rate around here. I'm sure the prices will go up the closer to winter we get.

I forgot to add that I'm located in Jackson, TN. I haven't been able to figure out how to put my location in with my screen name.

Here in the Central Texas area (Waco specifically), hay prices were markedly higher last year because of the severe drought that we experienced. One of the largest local suppliers quoted me $125 per round bale around November of last year. Of course, that is horse-quality coastal Bermuda

Fast forward to this year -- we have had a record wet year -- well above our yearly average -- and prices have dropped precipitiously -- $35-45 per round bale I would guess is the norm now. I have monitored prices over the last year pretty regularly and I don't think that there will be a problem at all getting hay in this area at a reasonable price all through the winter.

I feel for those in the southeast. Read a news story yesterday on-line about Atlanta possible running out of water from Lake Lanier in 3 months or so if they don't get lots of rain.

It seems that here in Oregon the hay price is always high. I just bought square bail (90 lb) Orchard for $13 each.

 In Indiana the drought effects may last for a while. I've heard talk of square bales going maybe $6-$7, farmers all over baling corn stalks, even talk of baling soybean stalks. An ag. expert friend told me the problem is most farmers are already overgrazing their available pasture (I know we've had to), and when they remove the stalks the soil is robbed of the decomposing nutrients next year. So they'll have to add more chemicals next year. We're still way below normal on rain, the creek and pond are both dry.
