$30 / bale for small square bales here. The drought is long and irrigation water expensive. Only horse folk buy it at this price of course.

Hey Scotty, please tell me where you've seen hay for $2/bale in our area!!! I'll fill my lofts with it, if it's good quality!!!!

Mornin Rich,
Good to hear you on again ! My neighbor Neil Dwyer just up the road from me on Lamb Hill Rd just switched over to small rounds. The pictures I put in my last post are him and his JD with his haybine cutting my Uncle Daves property earlier this year. Its an easy trip for you from Cambridge. I will pm you his phone # if you want but he is in the phone book ! Give East Wells a little business ! :)

I've heard $5 a bale for canadian squares. We paid $2.75 a bale this summer, picked up in the field. They were lighter than most, not real tight. I was able to load 42 bales on my small snowmobile trailer.

In '05 I had to buy cubed alfalfa hay along with breeder cubes to supplement what little hay I could bale. I couldn't buy hay because none was available. Last year the drought was worse but I was able to bale on halves a few pastures that produced very low quality hay. I still didn't buy any hay.
I do know this: if I had hay to sell there is NO WAY I would price gouge and sell at the prices hay was selling for. I know it's supply and demand but that's taking unfair advantage of the situation. Hay's going to cost more just from the price of fuel and fertilizer but purposely charging those high prices because they can just isn't right.

300 bales in barn this past August.

I just baled and sold 57 square bales of mixed grass hay a few days ago for $3 per bale. It was fair mixed grass hay (not good but not poor either)- some broomsedge in it, but my cows loved the few bales I fed to them and cleaned them up very well. Most other years I would get $1.50 for the same quality product.

The folks I sold it to seemed very happy to get it.
