Price of meat almost doubled here...do you folks have a meat processor nearby?

Went shopping for steaks the other day as a Buddy of mine was coming to help me for the day and BBQ steak is kind of a tradition.

Couple of smallish Rib Eye Steaks were $36.00 CDN at one store.

Went to another and got them for $24.00 CDN. Didn't like it, but figured I wasn't going to do any better.

A little put off that my friend left a good pile of fatty bits. Best tasty bits in my opinion. At least the cats were happy.

I'll bet they were!

To make matters worse. The first store I went to was our brand new bigger grocery store. I had only bought steak at the old store, close to expiry date with reduced "ENJOY TONIGHT" stickers. Meat guy tells me they don't do that anymore. Well, I guess I don't shop there anymore.

The Russian had a big walk in cooler, and sold a lot of meat. People came from far and wide.
When he cut meat for his family or friends, he would sometimes need to scrape the mold off a piece he had been saving, in the back of the cooler.
Some customers did not like the look of the beef...too dark!

BEEF is even better when it starts to break down.

I was at a Zehrs store a while ago and they had some large nice (with skin on) Atlantic Salmon Fillets. They were too dear for me, and I asked the kid cleaning up behind the fish counter, if they ever mark them down. Sure he said, and got his "ENJOY TONIGHT" stickers. 50% off! I didn't want to be greedy and asked if I could possibly have another. NO problem he said, how many would you like?

That sure never happens often enough!

The frustrating part is, the ranchers are not getting the money. It is the packers.

pork chops almost $4.50/lb

I need to find a local processor/seller.

Sam's Club Angus hamburgers are in a league of their own. Large, low fat, and they are delicious for only $3.31/lb!

It looks like ground beef has come back down to $3.99/lb. Not sure if it is a Memorial Weekend sale or not. It was $6.38/lb the other day.

Angus roasts are $7.98/lb if you buy 2.

A large ribeye roast is $12.98/lb and they weigh over 5 lbs and up.
