And then there's the cowards who don't want the general population of the forums to see how ignorant they are, so they send nasty, name calling PMs to people who disagree with them. Just sayin'--they know who they are.....Regards, Mike

Yep, the cowards always try to look nice in public, gotta maintain their false "image", but their true nature comes out in private.

I hate to hear that some would go so far to send a hateful PM. I will have to admit that I have had my my fur fluffed a few times here but not so bad that would ever consider sending a PM.

I will occasionally send one when I think we may have a common interest, like classic cars for example, or like the PM I sent just a few minutes ago, WWII warbirds. I try to be judicious about PMs, keep them unobtrusive and complimentary. I have sent a couple to individuals who made a particularly poignant rebuttal to some silly post, but I do try to keep them to a minimum; I have probably sent 4 or 5 in the 15 months I have been a member. I did receive one from another member wishing me and the family a Merry Christmas; I was very touched.

I suppose for me, it boils down to whether or not I might wish to communicate with another member on a personal basis.

PM's are what we did in Military gear...

But alas here I have seen them used to head off trolls..... And catch up in stuff we didn't want in the public domain.....

I occasionally send and receive PM, but I have never sent or received a negative one, members have apologized for getting out of hand and I have done the same which is usually a follow up to a public apology, not often but it has happened as most members tend to be pretty polite. Other times it is just a Hi how are you doing or something like that between acquaintances or to answer or ask a question off topic so as to not derail a thread.

I have never received a negative PM on TBN. The PMs are always about someone trying to help me out or just say hey.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Now that I said it, someone is going to be mean and call me a SoundGuy/Mule/Donkey or something. :D:D:D

I did get fussed out with a PM on another website though. I was describing a vacation and I used the word, "spazzed" or some such to describe a stressful situation. A reader was upset because they or a family member have a health issue that can cause them to have seizures and the word I used upset them.:laughing::laughing: I was told to use less hurtful words. :D:D:D I did not respond because I was afraid than any further comments I might cause great harm to their sensitive nature.:laughing::laughing:

As one of those "spazzers" who is barely sane much of the time (read a few of my posts here should you need to verify that) I have been called a LOT of things much worse than that term, both in public and in private. Sad thing is, sometimes many of us are afraid to say something because someone else might take offense. I have a Facebook friend who is currently in the midst of some discordant posts because he stated Biggby Coffee made a mistake changing their name from "Beaners". Come on, now...is "Beaners" such a negative term? No doubt somebody here is going to condemn me for using it, so I better sit down and shut up....

BTW Dan, rather than the term "spazzed" may I respectfully suggest that in the future you use a more friendly term, such as "strung out"? Not that I take offense.

I got a very negative one just today from a newer member, but most have been a thanks or specific questions.

Funny, about half the time, when I PM another member, I get no response at all. Think I need a breath mint?

On some occasions I have received a PM and when I tried to respond, I got the message the member was not accepting messages; some may not have their settings right.

It's been a while, but the same thing has happened to me.

some of my posts are a lil rough around the edges.. I don't hide it.. I kinda expect a negative PM now and then. I figure if I don't tick off at least someone now and then I may not be getting my point across. ;)

I told the guy I ticked of he needed to check his feelings at the door

I really see nothing to be gained by offending people and in doing so some really important information may be disregarded. I had hoped members were here to help each other rather than to alienate them. Being rude is something I will just never understand.

Channeling Monty Python........

SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM ... SPAZZED SPAZZED SPAZZED SPAZZED.

;):laughing::laughing::laughing:

I am sure if I used the phase "strung out" on the other website, I would offend someone. :D:D:D Likely some guitar or violin players take offense for some unknown to me reason. :D:D:D

Regarding, unanswered PMs. I can miss the PM because of the way I use TBN. The little alert number for unread PMs is easy to miss and I don't always see a message. Right now I have 97 unread PMs. Now, I have read and answered all of those PM's but they still show up as read. Been that way for years. :D So I have to not only see the PM count but also that the number has changed.

A couple of PMs I sent simply disappeared into thin air. Could never retrieve them as "sent mail", so I assumed they were never received...by anyone...as far as I know.

i think the issue is 'rude' has no set definition.. it's a long line. one end is stuff that 98% of the people would blow off as funny.. or not see a problem... but 2% might be offended at.

Hard to make a post that offends no one on earth.. yet says exactly what it needs to say.. in a manner that everyone can understand.

if every post had to be wrote that way.. I'd stay home and play ball bymyself.

I understand kids read the forum so the outright bad stuff needs to stay away.. but for the most part.. if a mild-strong adult conversation can't take place between 2 ( or more adults ).. someone may be a lil too sensitive to be swimming in the deep end.. so to speak. :)

That way you know they are reading what you wrote.
