I am going to try playing around with weights. Might be fun.
CTyner, any idea where to get sorbothane??? I tried a rubber
supply house here, and they do not carry it. Thanks Guys. Rick

Rick,
Following your thread with interest. You might try what the compound bow manufacturers have done to eliminate limb breakage. Look up Limb Savers. You could stick one on your meter and see if it helps. Certainly dampen vibration on mirrors and in other accessories other than bow applications. They look like a mushroom made out of a material similar to Sorbothane. I may have an extra laying around if you can't get one from a local sporting goods store. They come in several sizes as well.

It would seem that the static charge would be easy to prove. Simply hook up a wire, wait for the ball to stick and then ground the wire. Either it will or will unstick.

Is it possible that the temperature, humidity and vibration are causing the glass tube to change shape just enough to stick the ball?

Just grounding a wire connected to the tube will not work.
The wire would have to be connected everywhere on the glass or rubbed across the entire surface.

Glass is funny, its an insualtor however it can hold a static charge.
Since glass is an insulator the glass will only have the static discharged at the point of wire contact. Everywhere else will still have a charge.

You can see and feel this on your TV screen when dusting. You keep generating static discharges as you wipe across the screen. This is probably a good thing or it would be a hella zap.

Hi again Rick, like I told you, I'm in this till we find it. And after that, if you can use some more testing on any other ideas you might want to try in the future. I'm retired, and have the time, and glad to help you sir. You are a great guy, as far as I'm concerned, not many men will give you your money back if it don't work. Most would say sorry, but it works for others so it must be your fault. So as soon as I get them I will test them and get back to you, on how they work. And on what works or what don't work. Thanks again.
