My advise is dont talk about it on here or any public forum. I mean that as the helpful tip, just do what has to be done in your situation and move on in private. my .02

unfortunately dogs and cats have gained a higher standing then other animals, regardless of what the "law" says shoot one and you are in trouble. a person can be sued for anything, so S.S.S has become the answer. never use a pellet gun it does not kill the animal, result is the animal returns home then you are in deep DO DO the local dog and cat lovers will want you jailed for life. I have used a sling shot with 50 caliber lead balls to teach the owner to keep their wildlife killing "pets" at home by breaking legs and ribs. The vet cannot tell what happened because there is no projectile lodged in the victim.
If you do nor subscribe to the s.s.s then call the local authorities and file a complaint, that is my humble opinion:)

He sounds like a good natured dog. I would just continue to load him up and take him back home. Only not get out of your truck and ring the bell. Just pull up out front each time and lay on the horn till the people come out. Then tell them to get their dog out of your truck. You don't need to get out. Just holler to them that he's in the back and hurry it up. A few times of doing that at odd hours and the dog won't be coming over to your place anymore.

I also go real slow and use my horn a lot when people's dogs are out at the road. If the idiot owners keep getting woken up by the horn they will finally figure it out...

Thats not really funny ... but for some reason I'm laughing ... I think sometimes I am not all together, if I have a problem I forget 911 and go directly to the folks and talk ... seems that I do most of the talking.

blue river. We now chain the dog to fence post next to the road. call the owner and tell them where it is. no other contact. There is such a problem of meth cookers that move from the city to out of way places to do their thing. And since on the public dole the police and sheriff hands are tied until they really mess up then since welfare of state we pay any court costs.
Thanks giving day about 6 a.m. our dog started to bark and growel in front yard. went out and there was a bull dog eating our dogs food and another flee bitten hound was circling but our dog keeping him off the porch. neither had a collar on. I took a stick yelled at the bull dog and he knew what "git" ment and left the other still wanted food. Would not leave the yard. wraped a rope around his neck and put him in the pick-up bed drove a little over a mile away and turned around and let him out of truck bed. driving off this dog was in the ditch running about 30 mph with my truck. stopped turned around again and drove another mile with dog in middle of road following was going slow enough that 2 other pick-ups had gotten behind me so pulled off the road this dumb dog kept following the other pick-up so returned home.
So think have found a way to get rid of problems with dogs.
Yes it is funny but when you are served a summons for killing 2 living dogs then see the pups runninmg around and know more on the way. Kind of wipes the smile off.

It sure is interesting to see how heartless some of ya'll are, glad I don't live near you.

I don't agree on dogs being allowed to run loose, however they do occasionally escape despite the best efforts of an owner.
Has happened to me twice with the best dog ever. Both times were unforeseeable. Neighbor placed a live squirrel trap 3 ft from my fence...caught squirrel, dog goes nuts seeing it right there and digs under fence. Never dug out before, never has since.

Other time she jerked a 20 ft leash loose and headed out after a deer that ran by...this was in mountain terrain at my camp where no human could have speedily followed, my wife freaked and tried to chase her, she did 10 minutes or so down the mountain, took her over an hour to climb back up. Dog returned an hour later with her tongue hanging out a foot and a very satisfied look.

I hope I never have to deal with someone who killed one of my dogs just because they got loose unexpectedly. My jail sentence would most likely be longer than his....

Not the situtation the op is describing. First strike its a pit, second the owner is questionable, was the dog hit by the owner, will it snap, will it redline and go after you. Ever see two pits go at each other... I have two pit chows when they were younger they had disagreements with each other that was not pretty...that being said they (my dogs) are fenced in to keep them away from people. If they get out my first though it If they are shot its my fault.
When ever my dogs get free I think they may not come back. It puts a different perspective on owning a dog.
Am I heartless, no l love my dogs, but my dogs are not the op's dogs. I can see how someone else may not apprecaite them and may take action. If they are not on my property I have no say what happens.

Skyco. If my posts are what you are refering to. Our main trouble is neighbors dogs chasing our cattle. Then having to repair the fence the cattle brakes down trying to get away from the dogs. and are spread over the next couple of miles. or along the high way and we are held responcible if a cow is hit by a car.
The sight of 2 dogs eating a calf they had ham strung then brought down by grabing the throat to kill the calf. and the "law" and judge have no concern about this . only the poor dogs had some one shot at them. Then learn the owner of these dogs are making meth in a delapitaded trailer they had placed on a brush covered lot.
If so. I to you wish your understanding that I do not seek troubles. I try to live in peace with all neighbors. I have lived ,owned property in this area now for over 65 years and most all of the neighborhood told me what was done as they understood was a proper action. Except the dogs were allowed to return home.
Now if you agree to pay shipping can send the dogs your direction.
Pay mileage and can deliver by truck over night shipping.

This is exactly what I remember growing up. Most folks knew they could not say with any certainty exactly what their dog would do on the neighbors land.

So, you knew that was the neighbors dog, and he already told you if you ever had to shoot the dog, shoot it. As a result, I saw many dogs running around many miles never bothering no one, and everyone knew who owned each dog.

The only dogs that folks shot are the ones that ran their cattle or chewed on their own dog on their own property. (I guess folks felt like a dog had some right to be safe at his own home.)

When I was growing up, a neighboring farmer told my dad that he had to shoot our dog because he was chasing his cattle. Dad didn't blame him and we sure loved that dog.

I no longer own dogs, but if one of my dogs was threatening or creating a nuisance, I would not object to how the problem was dealt with.

My own kids have some pretty big dogs on one of our farms and they know I will shoot them if threatened. Dogs can be unpredictable and I have seen it first hand, my brother was bitten pretty bad by one of our dogs with whom we had never had any problems.

I hope to never have to shoot another dog, but will if needed. If this seems heartless to some, I can live with that.
