Thats not really funny ... but for some reason I'm laughing ... I think sometimes I am not all together, if I have a problem I forget 911 and go directly to the folks and talk ... seems that I do most of the talking.
It sure is interesting to see how heartless some of ya'll are, glad I don't live near you.
I don't agree on dogs being allowed to run loose, however they do occasionally escape despite the best efforts of an owner.
Has happened to me twice with the best dog ever. Both times were unforeseeable. Neighbor placed a live squirrel trap 3 ft from my fence...caught squirrel, dog goes nuts seeing it right there and digs under fence. Never dug out before, never has since.
Other time she jerked a 20 ft leash loose and headed out after a deer that ran by...this was in mountain terrain at my camp where no human could have speedily followed, my wife freaked and tried to chase her, she did 10 minutes or so down the mountain, took her over an hour to climb back up. Dog returned an hour later with her tongue hanging out a foot and a very satisfied look.
I hope I never have to deal with someone who killed one of my dogs just because they got loose unexpectedly. My jail sentence would most likely be longer than his....

...who killed one of my dogs just because they got loose unexpectedly...
Not the situtation the op is describing. First strike its a pit, second the owner is questionable, was the dog hit by the owner, will it snap, will it redline and go after you. Ever see two pits go at each other... I have two pit chows when they were younger they had disagreements with each other that was not pretty...that being said they (my dogs) are fenced in to keep them away from people. If they get out my first though it If they are shot its my fault.
When ever my dogs get free I think they may not come back. It puts a different perspective on owning a dog.
Am I heartless, no l love my dogs, but my dogs are not the op's dogs. I can see how someone else may not apprecaite them and may take action. If they are not on my property I have no say what happens.
When I was growing up, a neighboring farmer told my dad that he had to shoot our dog because he was chasing his cattle. Dad didn't blame him and we sure loved that dog.
I no longer own dogs, but if one of my dogs was threatening or creating a nuisance, I would not object to how the problem was dealt with.
My own kids have some pretty big dogs on one of our farms and they know I will shoot them if threatened. Dogs can be unpredictable and I have seen it first hand, my brother was bitten pretty bad by one of our dogs with whom we had never had any problems.
I hope to never have to shoot another dog, but will if needed. If this seems heartless to some, I can live with that.
