I think most of us older folks grew up under that threat, and in my case, at least, I knew it was not an idle threat, either.

Isn't that the truth!

The problem today with schools is that they stick their noses where they don't belong sometimes. All this child abuse bull if your kid has a scratched knee or a bruised arm. (I know because it happened to us).
And then the kids know that if you touch them that YOU will be the one disciplined. The kids today that are aware of this is why there is so much delinquency. The parents hands are tied. My opinion.

Gerard,

) My wife is a school teacher so I have a different slant on this. The schools are forced to stick their noses in your business. The schools do not pass the laws - the legislature does. My wife, by law is a "mandated reporter". If she sees any thing out of the ordinary she is required by law to report it o the nurse, guidance counselor or whomever. Failure to report something that turns out to be abuse leaves my wife open to a personal lawsuit. Yes that is right - By your occupation you must do this and if you fail you can be sued as an individual. Also failure to report is a criminal offense.

On a lighter note...

Once a few years back we had a family celebration at my parents house. One nephew who was 9 years old was running amok. For the first few minutes all eyes were on the parents of this child waiting for them to discipline him. Instead they seemed happy to ignore the situation. The kid was now running through the living room kicking the walls and furniture as he ran by. On his return trip he made a tactical error and kicked my fathers dog. My father reacted faster than you could blink and there was my nephew being held with my father's fingers around his neck. My father told him to clam down and stop his behavior. The kid replies " You can't touch me. I'll call Children and Youth and have you arrested" My father picked him up off the ground by his neck and said "In that case I will have to kill you to make it worthwhile" He released the kid who slumped to the ground and wisely kept his mouth shut. I glanced about the room. Every adult in there, except the kid's parents had a wry smile on their face.

( .......The schools do not pass the laws - the legislature does............ )

And who are these legislator's???? The people that the parents elected, or didn't have a hand in electing, because they didn't vote. If you don't like what the legislature does, then vote them out of office. I know that this thread will get closed if it becomes political, but I am willing to gamble this by saying....... Look at what is going on in this country with Legislators threatening Judges because they don't like the way that they rule in cases where the law differs with the politicians religious values. When the Federal Government passes a law to "force" the courts to reconsider a matter that has been before many courts many times in the past from the lowest to the highest court, I believe that this is government run amok.
Schools should be about education, not about teaching the personal views of the administration, teacher, or politician. Public schools should teach, and leave the religious/ social teaching to the parents. Too often teachers want to pass on there religious and/or social values, which conflict with the parents values. Teach the child to think and that child will be a strong pillar in the community. Brainwash them with an ideology, whether liberal or conservative, and they will be just another sheep in the flock blindly following without knowing why they follow.
