Propane Cost???

Love cutting wood, but had to give it up due to health. We have about a 150 acres or so of timber and fallen Oak, Hickory just lie there. I've offered several people access, but no takers. I keep a little on hand in case of an emergency.

We too have offered people free wood, you'll get people who say they are real interested but never show up.

We have cut, limbed and drug trees into piles for easy access and despite telling several people to have at it, they just lay there rotting until I finally pile and burn them. I guess people want it busted, seasoned, delivered and stacked for free.

The one guy who did come brought a single axle dump truck and took everything he could reach from the size of your thumb to the biggest trunks. He hand split everything, only had one saw, smoked like a train the whole time, drank Mountain Dew by the 2 liter bottle and never left until he had a full truck load. Now that I think about it I wish he'd come back.

I just got my tank topped off, 127 gallons @ $2.35 per.
We're on a yearly contract, plus I just graduated onto their 'Senior" plan, 5% off the top!
I think I'll keep them!:)

I talked to an aquaintance of mine who may be getting me a 1000 gallon tank soon. I've been wanting one for quite some time. If it happens and I can get it certified I'll be in good shape. We only burn about 800 gallons per year and would be able to buy 1200 gallons with our 2 tanks plus pick our supplier from several different sellers. Checking prices locally in the past they can vary over $1.00 per gallon. I plan to fill both tanks during the summer when prices are low.

Just paid $4 a gal.. Strange that the delivery guy only filled the tank to 50%. Wondering if they are trying to hide the sticker shock. Paid $3.29 in Nov., then $3.40 end of Dec.

Our supplier has a 100 gallon maximum they'll deliver. Trying to spread their supply and prevent hoarding so no one has to go without.

Good Afternoon Guys,
I received a delivery last week, I believe it was $3.00 per gallon. Higher than I wanted to pay, but not nearly as bad as some of the figures that others have posted.

TripleR is correct in stating its probably not your local supplier, in the years I delivered and hauled heating oil, we normally only marked the price per gallon by .050 ... that payed the cost of running the truck, payed the driver, and made a modest profit for the business !

Local Supplier added 100 gallons to my Mom's tank a couple days ago. I didn't even ask the cost. I'm guessing mid 4's.

You've always been a Super Member to me Scotty!!! :)

I got my Mom's bill in the mail yesterday, $3.69 per gallon, 100 gallon limit. So we've came down little over a dollar already. What a ripoff by the big companies that control the flow of propane.

Propane guy stopped by but would not fill my tanks because they were over fifty percent. The driver said that they are only filling customers up to fifty percent to spread around what they have. When I asked him what about my pre-buy he gave me the standard "call the office".

Have a 500 gal tank...thinking of getting another and tie them together...OR...sell this one and get a 1000 gal one. How is the tank certification work on these size tanks?

176.9 gallons yesterday bringing me to 85% (normal level). At the price quoted last week, that's gonna be almost $1600 with taxes. :(

I hope that gets you through the winter

I got my tank topped off in late December, $2.39/gal. But with the cold weather I've been suplementing my heat with a kerosene heater. When it runs the furnace doesn't even kick on. Most of the house is pretty toasty, but the bathroom trip are rather quick. With the kersosene heater, I should be able to make this take of propane last till spring. Called last week to pay bill and it was $3.69/gal. Not cheap, but better then what I've been hearing.

I got my 1000 gallon filled last Friday with 500 gallons. Price quoted was $1.97 per gallon. I feel very lucky.

Double your number of tanks and always buy in the Summer. Here in Texas, propane goes up when the wind blows cool and gasoline goes up before any holiday or weekend.

I was told yesterday that Propane is $5.00 per gallon here in Northern Missouri now. Something about distribution problems creating shortages. What a joke!!!!

There is limitless reasons for price increases. I worked for a electric utility and they would shut down generation units for "maintenance" during the winter which caused a shortage of kilowatts which naturally caused a price increase. Imagine that!!

I always top my 500 gallon tank in the summer. It will easily make it through the winter until I top it off in the summer.

Mine was $1.39 gallon in July 2013.

Propane guy came a few minutes ago, after a different propane guy came last week and filled tank.. The guy that came last week was lost and came to the wrong house, but he said, well we have an open order for you too so since I am here, lets just fill it .. OK. we were "locked" at $4.50 when the wife called about 2 weeks ago. so we got filled that night at the $4.50. So this guy says well he was trying to clear out the old tickets is why he came today. I asked him how much it is today and he says $4.00 even. He says it is on the way down, and expects it to be normal winter price (maybe $2.50) by March. Summer price is about $1.85 around here. I wish the wife had waited and not panicked and ordered, but it is only money. We could have made it to Mid March.

This thread has been an eye opener for me. I'm not going to complain any longer about the cost of my geothermal. Power here is $.10 kwh and my last bill for Nov. and Dec. was $525.00 for all electricity. I heat 4600 sq.ft. of house and 500 sq. ft. of garage. Anyone considering geothermal should check out an open loop system if they have lots of water available. My system uses fresh water from my well and then dumps it. No costly ground loops used.
