Not every job or role is for everyone. If you don't feel comfortable with moderation because other posters will know your anonymous handle and will scrutinize your decisions, it is not a good job for you. Paid or unpaid.
The only reasons to avoid the public is that your moderation may not fit the actual guidelines or you are too thin-skinned to hear critiques of your work.
Hay Dude's suggestion is absurd to make a point; but would you really want to live in a society where you could not even identify the officer arresting you?
We may be headed that way. I noticed during the summer of ‘20 riots that destroyed several American cities, some cops were wearing face concealing riot gear.
But back to front porch moderators. They should be identified, like they are everywhere else. This is America.
