Not every job or role is for everyone. If you don't feel comfortable with moderation because other posters will know your anonymous handle and will scrutinize your decisions, it is not a good job for you. Paid or unpaid.

The only reasons to avoid the public is that your moderation may not fit the actual guidelines or you are too thin-skinned to hear critiques of your work.

Hay Dude's suggestion is absurd to make a point; but would you really want to live in a society where you could not even identify the officer arresting you?

We may be headed that way. I noticed during the summer of ‘20 riots that destroyed several American cities, some cops were wearing face concealing riot gear.
But back to front porch moderators. They should be identified, like they are everywhere else. This is America.

I don't know a single reason mods should be identified UNLESS they never join conversations other than break up playground squabbles. Few if any will do that unless paid what their time is worth. I suggest mods be identified by a number when acting in the capacity of mod. That is to say as a member they remain annomous. Why? Because every post they make will be scrutinized looking for something that supposedly conterdict's reasoning they used a week earlier to edit or delete something. I'm not buying the argument that explaination is needed for every action mods take. (Post deleted by mod 14 for language) is sufficent 90% of the time. If agreived member ask's other members why it fell out of bounds, they will usually get an explaination. People that don't understand bounderies can seldom be made to understand. That's why meaningful political discussion is so dificult. There's a big difference between not understanding and not aggreeing. Quite frankly I think the average man on the street would say it's childish expecting mods to continously take a hand and educate.
I agree that would be sufficient.

But 99% of the time....zero explanation is given.

Make a post asking a question or something and the thread deviates.....wake up the next morning and the thread is gone and no trace it ever existed with no explanation.

Or a thread that is locked with apparently no offending comments visible. Perhaps they were already deleted....but whose posts and why it resulted in a locked thread. Leaves people scratching their heads as to what happened.

Just deleting posts and locking threads isnt education anyone on what they did wrong so they can work to improve in the future.

A little two-way communication would go along way

These mods need to understand they are not moderating the normal forum. They don't really need to do anything unless there is a threat of violence. Beyond that, there really is no need for them.

Watch...this will turn into a mod getting his sheriff badge thinking he has to tame the wild west. Then it will turn into a long discussion on mod behavior where other mods defend each other against the populace. Then it will become fractured and tribal.

Keep the barney fifes away from this...

Well stated.

I appreciate open exchange and often learn something either participating or from the sidelines

Some of the twists and turns make it interesting and provide synergy...

I value the broad knowledge base of TBN posters... learning from others experience and safe operating tips that never occurred to me.

Another plus is I find out about things I never knew I needed that have resulted in some big purchases...

I'm one that tends to read the fine print and was caught off guard when COVID became a banned topic as it is part of the fabric of modern living.

As a consumer Arbiter for many years I always allowed and encouraged latitude as long as civil and not simply a rehash... sometimes the most seemingly inconsequential discussion impart profound knowledge...

I've learned just as much thru sidebar posts scattered throughout threads on TBN as I have from posts related to the thread title....

I think there should be intervention before threats of violence.
Posting someone’s home address, personal information, phone number, pictures of children, etc. should also be cause for action.
Once you're at the violence threshold, you’ve let things go much too long.

I think when anyone’s replies turn personal, or insulting they should be censored. Keep your responses limited to the topic discussed. You can tell someone why you think they’re wrong and present your case, but getting personal and insulting should be over the line.
Stick to the topic. Be able to prove your statements. Otherwise opinions are like…well, you know the rest.

Plenty good enough reason to have mods anonymous is to take away temptation for members "calling them out". If each mod is assigned a number and enough members complain that #8 is unfair or inconsistant, administration will decide what is apporperate and do it. IMO that solves problems and promote's harmoney far better than duals in the street.
