Anyone heard of Proxyconn or currently using? Supposedly increases dialup by 8 to 11 times. You use your regular ISP. And install their program for a montly fee. I just discovered it myself. Haven't tried it yet. Since DSL is not available in my area, and my not ever be. Rural Ozarks. There is a free 7 day trail offer. http://www.proxyconn.com/

There were many services like this before broadband was available just about everywhere . Of course, most rural users don't have great access to inexpensive broadband- some use satellite and others pay a lot for wireless, but many don't have much choice other than dial up. Most of these services cache pages- either on your home PC or on another server so they can put up the graphic intenisive pages faster. This isn't a great replacement for broadband as any new content must come over dial-up speeds, but it can more quickly load pages. For $6 dollars a month it might be worth it, and the 7 day trial would give you a good idea of how well it works for your surfing habits.

I think these services work pretty well, but don't pay too much. Here's a SlipStream reseller that offers it for $2.95 a month by itself.

This company offers great prices on dial-up, too. I have several church friends that have signed up for one of their limited hours plans - as low as $35/year with no pop-ups or banner ads. Their customer service and connection speed is first-rate.

Do the trial and see how it works. I personally don't think you will be happy, maybe so. Call your local cell phone company and see if they have tower wireless. I am on our cell phone companies and vary happy with it. The only problem is your outside box must be able to see the tower. Even if it is a long ways off it still works.

Thanks for the info guys. Not sure how I will go, probably try the free trail first and if it don't work try the other. I sent both places an email with some questions. So far only proxyconn has answered. As for wireless, when I got my cell phone I inquired about their internet service. The answer was, "it's about the same as dial-up". And depending on where I live may not be as reliable. There is lots of hills and hollers between me and the cell tower. Sometimes have to move around to locate a good signal. I'll let you know how the ISP booster works. Not much other choice where I live.
