PT 425 cab

I put my cab on my 425 a couple weeks ago and got the pt out last night to see how it did at keeping the wind off me. It was 32 degree outside, but was nice inside the cab no wind no drafts. I never ran it long enough to get the oil hot to see if the heat from the hoses would keep the cab warm enough or if I'l have to do something else to get more heat but as it is and at 32 degrees outside it stayed comfortable. Maybe if I need more heat I can remove the covers off the side of the tunnel to let more heat come from the hoses. Moss road did you ever fix those six bolts that hold the side covers on the tunnel that used to bother you? I fixed mine with the exception of one bolt.

I don't have a scanner on my computer. I am not real swift on a computer either, I am running linux on my computer and some of the attachments that you all put on the forum I can't get. The cause for me not being able to get them is probably more my fault than the opperating system that I am using.

As for a heater, somewhere I saw a small hydraulic cooler plumbed into the lines to provide heat for a cab. Not sure where, though... could have been a cab for a Kubota mowing unit.

The six bolts that hold the side covers on the tunnel was a problem for me too trying to get the holes to line up to fix the problem I got six stainless steel bolts same diameter as the bolts that came in the covers with a little extra length to have a lock washer on it and a wing nut. I took the covers off and threaded the bolts in from the back side so that I would have studs to slide the covers on and then just thread the wing nuts on. I did that this spring since then I have lost the lock washers. If I ever have a problem of the wing nuts backing off I will put a little glue on one of the ears of the wing nut to give it a litttle extra weight to keep it from backing off, but so far that hasn't been a problem. The bolt up next to where the brake leaver is I couldn't do that way, but it isn't to bad just starting one bolt. When I get one of those roundtuits I will replace that bolt by relocating it farther back and elongating a hole in the cover , but as of right now it works good enough that that will probably never get done. As far as the cab I never had any fancy bending tools so to bend the metal I used a banch vice a short peice of thick walled 4inch sewer pipe, a pipe wrench. I built the frame out of 1 inch square tubing and conduit pipe. The top is metal with three eye bolts to lift it off in the summer. I forget right off hand what size gauge plexiglass I used but I had to put bends in it for around the doors and the windsheild has a bend at the top. There was a lot of considerations had to be taken into account to accomadate the ossilation and articulation as well as the lift arm lever. The doors was hard to figure out the bends in the metal especially with the elaborate tools that I had to use to make the bends. I made it so that it would fit over the rops so that it would come off easy and so that I could make it wide enough for a little dumplin to fit in comfortably, I don't like being cramped up. I salvaged the metal for free that I used including the metal roof. I think I have about $160. dollars in the plexaglass and the price of the bolts. I don't have a heater in it as I don't know if it will be nessary yet as it will be my first winter with the cab. Now as far as the windsheild wiper I haven't put one on it yet but my brother told me of two drunks that he saw that the wipers on their car didn't work to solve their problem they tied a string to the wiper on one side and ran the string through the widow and out the other side and tied it to the other wiper and when it rained they just pulled the string back and forth. See my thoughts start out simple and I complicate them as I go.
