I saw a reference or two to a PT-429 on the forum. When I searched on the term, I got zilch. So, enquiring minds want to know, "What is it?"

New model, someone's fantasy, whimsy, 1/3 of a PT-1287? What? :)

It's a 4XX user upgraded to a 29HP engine...

I'm assuming the 29 refers to something with 29 HP. I was wondering what brand of 29 HP engine folks are thinking of putting in their PTs.

There is a 28 hp Robin that I saw on the Robin web site. It is slightly smaller than the current 25 hp version. I wonder if this is a consideration?

I looked at the specs on that engine a few months ago. From what I can tell, it's exactly the same as the old 25hp engine except that:

1) It has fuel injection and a new electronic ignition that lets it start better in cold weather.

2) The redline has been raised from 3600 to 4000 rpm. The "extra" 3hp are at the top of the curve (HP= torque x speed). IIRC, at 3600 rpms, the hp curves are virtually identical. I haven't checked the maximum rpms for the hydraulic pumps, so I don't know if they will survive 28hp at 4000rpm.

Also, the electronics are built into the throttle body right on top of the engine. Heat+vibration are not usually good things for electronic assemblies.

The pt 429 that scarg built from a 422 was bought by a friend of mine last year , he has it up and running. He uses it to mow and he used it in the winter to plow snow.
. The things he had to do to it to get it running were not too extensive. He does not post on Tractor by net and I don't think he ever checks the site.

Isn't that the one with with the Kawasaki engine from north of Albany NY? If so, I saw it but it wasn't running at the time.

I bought the T-8 stump grinder and forks from his setup when he was selling his stuff... He had some other attachments in like new condition -- most everything was very low hours, as I recall.

Yes that was the machine. We drove up and got it last summer, I wanted the spreader and my friend bought the rest of the attachments and the 429.
