PTO EXTENSION

I recently installed Pat's easy change on a TC40DA. The installation went easily and it makes hookup much quicker, as others have said. I haven't tried to use my Woods 72" brushbull yet, but sort of expect to need PTO extension due to longer lift arms. Question is how much leeway does one typically have in PTO hookup. I don't really want to experiment with running cutter in potentially dangerous situation. Thanks in advance

Well in this older thread I recommended the agri-supply extender

Your woods manual (pdf) doesn't seem specify a minimum overlap, but I like to see a few inches at maximum extension.

To measure the overlap - slide the PTO apart and attach the tractor half to the tractor. Line up both shafts side by side to measure the overlap.

I added Pat's (Love it) and found out my tiller PTO shafts were too short then.

I think the only safe way is to take the shield off, hook it up with the PTO shaft NOT together. Then lift the implement to check if it bottoms out. Then lower the implement to check for overlap. Be sure to account for the rear tires going over a hump and the implement being in a hole, or lowered to max depth.

I still have to extend my shafts and get a new shield--the old ones were chewed up due to being too short.

Flintlock - if your PTO drive shaft works without issue before installing PEC, just add the PTO extender and you'll be back pretty close to where you started. The extender is advertised to give you 4 inches. Pat Greenwell says his Cat 1 PEC adds 3.75", and his Cat2 adds an even 4". Not sure about Cat3, don't actually know of anybody who's bought that size yet.
