Generator PTO generator problem

   / PTO generator problem #51
Behind my TC40D, I use a 15kW Northern generator mounted on a steel plate on a Carry-All. I think I paid about $75 for the CarryAll a few years ago and imagine they're now up to $100 or so. However, $400+ for a factory-fabricated mount is ridiculous, and I'd never purchase something from the same jokers anyway. What happens if there's problems with that - same lack of customer service. Why not just buy your own CarryAll and get a reinforced plate put on top and you're good to go.

On my 40D, with the RPM's about 1500, I slowly move the PTO lever until I see the genset start to move just barely, then slowly move it the rest of the way to full on. Then I do as you point out, watch the Hz (on a digital power meter) and increase the engine RPMs to a point where I get about 60 Hz. Funny thing is, according to the tractor's PTO speed idiot light, I never quite get to 540.

The last few times I used the generator, I lowered the CarryAll just slightly till it was resting on two automotive jack/stands and now the CarryAll doesn't torque quite as much when a larger load such as my washer or AC comes on. Aaahhh, AC, aren't these large generators grand!
