very nice use of being able to multitask an implement can you possibly send me some info on how to change my bush hog this way if its not too much trouble?

Not sure I would call it multitasking. We do not plan on using it for anything but sawing stumps & trees.

The picture pretty much shows what we did. Just cut a 10' mower down to the frame width (which only allowed a smaller blade) then decided we wanted at minimum, a 47" blade (this allowed us to get a 19" deep cut), so we added back on to each side. We sloped the sides up to the rear so the blade could cut below ground level when saw was tilted down on the back. Trees can be very big at ground level. Cut one today that may have only been a 12" tree, but where we cut it off, was probably 42".

From there, it is just getting your stump jumper off & your gear box hub modified to a blade adapter.
We sent our gear box hub to Douglas Welding and Machine, Inc. Kipp, Kansas, 785-536-4902, Leroy Kipp. He made the blade & hub modification.

After we installed it, it had about 5/16" wobble, up & down, and it shook my little Kubota more than I liked, so we shimmed one side between the blade & adapter with sheet metal to make it run more true & we balanced the blade with an old tire bubble balancer & it took the shake out of it.

We started using it 12/11/13 & we rotated or changed the broken teeth 12/26/13. We have probably used it 2 to 4 hours most days. In 3 hours today, we cut & piled what may take me 2 days to burn.

Not sure how much gear box is required. We have a 75 HP gear box & using al L4610 HSTC tractor. Have been wondering if we might take the gear box out, but we have a spare if it happens.

Yes, a hydrostatic transmission will make it much faster & easier on you & your tractor. It can pull the engine down on larger trees or if below ground too much, but we just ease forward & gain rpm's, then ease back in.

The blade has about a 1" kerf.

We turn out unit upside down to install the blade & do a lot of the above work. I think the blade weighs more than 250 lbs. That is the only way I could figure to be able to handle the job.
