The tractors. Maybe they won't be used much. :)

The backhoe. It's being used as a carry all/scaffolding to build a house at the moment.

( This is what you would want to use. I've been thinking of this myself but the $4-5k price tag has stopped me so far. They are made for smaller tractors.

I have the Hoelscher DP-60, a 5 foot wide scraper / pan. It is under a year old with very low hours. I'll be selling it in May or June this year for $3,800 if you're interested. I believe a new one is $4,600. It is a little much for my 26 hp Cub Cadet. I can only fill it about 3/4 full but I knew this before I bought it. It is the most effective attachment that I could buy for moving dirt and I'm pleased with it. A 40 hp tractor would probably be about right.

The existing small pond that will be enlarged. This project will happen first because we will try to back water up to this levee when we build pond #2.

The dozer you have, by the way, appears to be a Komatsu D-41.
The question of weight or power that's limiting you, it is more the weight issue. A 6 yd unit is a pretty good sized piece of iron for a 55hp tractor, but that hp might work it if it had more weight and traction to it. You would have a case right now of "the tail wagging the dog" if you tried to do to much with the set-up you were describing as the scraper would dictate to the tractor and not the other way around.
However, the D-41 would be perfect for this 6 yard scraper if you've got the hydraulic set-up for it.
Most tank building/cleaning around here is done with a dozer anyway, so maybe those evenings after work would be better spent plugging away with the Komatsu rather than trying a whole new rig which is unlikely to work.

Joe,

You're good with the Dozer identification. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I found out that the dozer is a D-41A. Not sure how A is different than non A?? It also has the rear hydraulics, so it would seem to be a perfect fit.

Knowing what I know now, we could buy the used 6 yard scraper and it could be pulled with the dozer. Of course, I would hook it up behind my tractor to see what it would do..... Gotta push those limits sometimes....

The "A" listing on your dozer means it's the second generation for that model. The original version wouldn't have a letter after the size. I.E. D41 then D41A then D41B and so on till you get to current models.

Years ago I worked on a pretty big job in CA where they were removing a hill to build a couple thousand homes. There must have been 30 to 40 scrapers running with a dozen dozers used to push the scrapers. The ground was hard clay and they couldn't get a load without a push from a dozer.

If your ground is similar to mine, then you'll have to loosen it first befor you can scrape it. My Case 1550 does a good job for me making piles. I then load them with my Ford 555E and haul it with my F600 dump truck.

It's a process tha required climbing from one to the other, but with planning, I can get a huge pile with the dozer first. Then I load the dump truck and drive off to dump, then repeat the process.

In a day I can move several hundred yards of material half a mile away.

With your track loader, you could eliminate the need for the dozer to build piles and use it to spread and compact your dam. Then driving over it with additional loads with a dump truck will just add to the compaction.

There's a little construction that started on vacant land at Old Denton Road and Hebron Parkway a week or so ago; all kinds of yellow equipment out there, but there's one green machine; a 9520 John Deere. The first time I saw it out there, it was pulling a big disk, but later was pulling a scraper and yesterday was hooked up to two scrapers.

I got the 6' model and it cuts and hauls dirt quickly. I am about 100 miles from where there made so I got a good price from my dealer.
