Pull from the front or the rear?

Right, and hence they do not flip over backwards. Always below the axle.

Every pulling track and association that I know of has mandatory wheelie bar requirements, and maximum drawbar heights,
and occasionally they still have one that will try to go over backwards usually bringing the front end up high then dropping over on one side.
And as far as getting red flagged for the front end being over 2 feet high as one poster mentioned that has to be a regional thing I haven't heard or seen it.
All of the posters claiming scientific results and calculations that a conventional fixed drawbar can not over turn to the rear are playing with numbers and not real world experiences. Normal farming and forestry work using a factory style fixed drawbar have had rear overturn incidents, not a lot but they do occur.

Tractor pull tractors do not flip over. They are drawbar hitched below the rear axle.

Being hitched below the rear axle certainly makes it more difficult to flip the tractor. As the hitch point gets closer to the ground it becomes more and more difficult to flip the tractor...but anytime the hitch position is above the ground it is possible to flip the tractor if it has enough torque and traction.

So who recalls these rural legends about tractors flipping over because their rear tires were frozen in a puddle overnight? I've heard it hear several times, but it's all hearsay, with no first hand witnesses. And, it may or may not involve pulling.

I have seen several tractors get frozen to the ground both with and without chains.
I have had my tires get frozen into the ground, and had the front end start to climb,
but I never dump the clutch at full throttle especially when I'm just starting to move a tractor.
I have had to rock them back and forth several times to get free and have broken tire chains doing so,
If a tractor was warmed up and hammered it definitely could happen, but everyone I know is a bit nicer to there tractor then that.

If one were working a tractor on table top smooth and flat grounds, what would catch up and cause the load to unexpectedly flip the tractor? The operator would know at starting off if the load was too much. No surprise! No catastrophe.

Unless you feel that the typical tractor operator is incapable of making adjustments that might extend his or her life span.

go back to post 140, click on the link, and watch how DIFFICULT it is to flip a tractor over backwards.

It takes three things to conspire to make a really bad wreck. And the first one is usually "I was not paying attention when....".

That’s true but most of the flipping backwards videos I’ve seen were hooked to a load they couldn’t pull to start with.

A good example on how NOT to pull

Not really related to the thread - but a guy I worked with came in Monday morning and said he had just trashed a nice 8N. He was pulling against a Eucalyptus while it was being sawed, intended just as an anchor to make it fall away from a building. He saw the tree was falling toward the tractor, and ran to the side just in time to avoid being hit. The huge tree fell squarely down the length of the tractor and broke everything.

What a way to abuse a pretty little Ford, I keep waiting for the chain to break and slap him or the tractor to get away from him.
If it had it would have been Darwin at work and winning.

Note... The stump is out & the tractor is just fine.

Seems to me that he used JUST ENOUGH caution to get the job done.

Not how I would have done it but it worked.
