I have an opportunity to operate a no till seed drill for my local NRCS. Will my B7800 with fluid tire ballast and a LA402 loader pull it safely? It weighs 3000 lbs but runs on wheels and has its own engine for hydraulics. I would be running primarily flat to gently sloping grazing land. Let me know. Shortrees

How wide is it?

I sincerly doubt you could pull it well. As far as safely,no big deal. My guess is it is either a Tye or a Truax. I work for our SWCD and we rent one of each. they require much hp to do a good job. My L3400 will not pull them. Our tye is a 7 foot and our truax is a 10 foot. In pasture ground they pull hard. that said, it will not hurt to try. Just my thoughts!

I think it is 7 feet wide with 15 drill sets set on 6 inch centers. I will try to get the make and model number tomorrow. Shortrees

Thank you all for your help. As I start my fourth year as a small commercial orchardist I am still stymed by the lack of actual, how do you do it, information. I have had to learn every single thing on this place the hard way. I will get the make and model of the drill as soon as possible, but no later than 9 AM PST tomorrow. Shortrees

Shortrees.
I guess we have failed to say welcome to TBN. Could you please take a few minutes and fill out a bit more of your profile. It gives us a better guide to advise you. Are you trying to put grass between your trees? Are you doing this as the new trellis system or are you more conventional? What spacing between your trees? You might try to find a turf rental place which would have a 3pt model. It would be great at placing the seed in the right position. I am in second year at establishing an orchard on our farm. I am using minimum maintenance grasses to cut expense. If I could be of some help, just PM me and I would gladly respond with what I have found.

I am trying to seed ten twelve inch strips of alfalfa about 240 feet long down the middle of my rows to control plant bugs. I already have the orchard floor under control with a mixture of short grass and clover. I just would rather not plant by hand. At this point I am thinking of discing the rows, broadcasting the seed and spring tooth harrowing or rolling it.I am a bit worried about upsetting the existing grass balance in more of an area than I need, but the only other idea is a roto tiller. Any ideas?
