Maybe this product would work for you? Brush Grubber HD, Crop, Turf & Nursery Production - GEMPLER'S

I used 1/2" wire cable sling-chokers and grade 70 3/8" chains for skidding logs out of my forest. They were heavy duty but cumbersome and each was piece was only up to 25 feet long. I needed a way to get the logs to come to me instead of trying to get my tractor to the logs.

After a lot of research, for my specific needs, I bought 100' of 1/4" Samson Amsteel Blue synthetic rope, along with two ten foot sections of the chafe guard, from eBay Store - BLITZKRUEG products LLC: winch acessories, misc., kawasaki

see specs here-Samson

I also bought a winch kit from here Snatch Blocks, Tree Straps, and More for ATV, UTV, and Recovery Winches. Free Shipping. - Gorilla Winches and ATV Accessories

and one of these cool carabiners with a built-in pulley. I am ready to go now....just as soon as it warms up a bit:(

When selecting rope or cable consider that a dynamic rope, like a climbing rope, is very stretchy and will come slinging back atcha like a rubber band with painful or injurious results. Static or non-stretchy rope, is less likely to stretch and snap back but will to a certain degree. Cable and chain are the order of the day. Harder to handle but safer by far.

I don't agree with that anymore-check out the new Samson Amsteel Blue rope

Northland, Are my eyes deceiving me or is this link saying that a 1/4 inch diameter rope has an average breaking strength of eight thousand lbs? if I am reading this correctly then WOW. .............Thanks, Mike

To pull them over takes a LOT of force high up - and a lot of rope - but to get the angle low - even more rope.
Too high up and you just break them, dilemma,,,,,,,

Do the force diagram thang, make some assumptions about coefficient of friction (best case is 1, but that would require all 4 wheels to have the same traction and/or be locked together). Then review your lo skool fiz book to figure if it is the sin or cos of the angle of the rope to the ground. None of which matters, because for a tree of any size you won't do this with a li'l twaktor anyway.
Even a 1/2 ton 4WD truck would have a better chance.

but don't play with stored energy, it'll getcha.

That's right Mike. This new rope is amazing and as you can see from the Samson site it is used to replace wire rope in logging and shipping applications.

My only concern was the abrasion resistance so that's why I ordered it with the chafe guards. We will see how it holds up in my forestry work;)
